Wang Ling (onyomi: Ō Ryō) is Wang Yun's nephew and Guo Huai's brother-in-law. He led a handful of unsuccessful campaigns against Wu, but he is best known for his betrayal against Wei.
Role in Games
Wang Ling's memorable appearance in Dynasty Warriors 7 comes in the Jin story. When Cao Shuang was murdered by Sima Yi, Wang Ling secretly planned to force Cao Fang out of his throne and replace him with an older candidate to reduce the Sima clan's hold on the Wei kingdom. Sima Yi and his forces set out to punish the Wei official at Shouchun. Before the battle, Wang Ling allied himself with Wu, but Sima Yi causes chaos as one of Wang Ling's sons, Wang Guang, chooses to remain with Wei. He is later executed by Sima Yi after his defeat.
Although his rebellion is omitted in Dynasty Warriors 8, it reappears in 9 when he opposes the Sima family following Cao Shuang's demise. Aside from the main battle against him, the player can also convince several of Wang Ling's officers to surrender beforehand as well as dealing with the Wu forces at Hefei Castle to make defeating Wang Ling easier.
In Zhong Hui's personal DLC scenario, Zhong Hui senses Wang Ling's intentions to rebel and puts him down before secretly revealing his own ambitions to overthrow the Sima family. Wang Ling is eventually convinced to join Zhong Hui, and he remains loyal to Wei until Zhong Hui takes power.
