Wen Ping (onyomi: Bun Pei) is an officer who served under Liu Biao and later his son, Liu Cong prior to submitting to Cao Cao's army. When asked why he belatedly surrendered to Cao Cao, he admitted his true intentions of rebelling to uphold the will of his late lord. Impressed by this, Cao Cao allowed him to retain control of several troops in Jingzhou.
The English localization of the Dynasty Warriors series and the first Romance of the Three Kingdoms title misspells his name as Wen Pin and Wei Pin respectively. He placed second with fans in Gamecity's Shin Sangoku Musou Blast first card promotion poll.
Role in Games
Throughout the games, Wen Ping recurrently appears as early as Sun Jian's invasion of Jing Province under Liu Biao's forces. During Changban and subsequent campaigns of Cao Cao and Cao Pi, Wen Ping is also present in many of their battles.
In Dynasty Warriors 8, Wen Ping will attack the Shu forces' ram as it breaks the Xuchang's outer gate in the final hypothetical stage. Like many of the other officers, he is slain.
Within the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, Wen Ping is presented as one of Liu Biao's more capable military generals with his leadership and war both ranking in the low 80's while all of his other stats are competent, falling somewhere in the 60's-70's. In reference to Wen Ping's successful defense of positions against the forces of Wu, he carries several traits that aid in the defense of cities and increase his own unit's defensive capabilities when deployed to the field.
A general of Liu Biao's faction after the latter consolidates control of Jing, Wen Ping will later serve Cao Cao and Wei while the fictional Gathering of Heroes scenario will have him serve as Liu Biao's most able military officer. Otherwise, Wen Ping can be found as a free officer at Wan in earlier scenarios.
