Yoshimasa Hosoya is a freelance Japanese voice actor.
Hosoya has had an interest in acting for the majority of his youth and attended drama clubs offered at his schools throughout his life. After he graduated from high school, he hesitated between pursuing a career in theatrical acting or voice acting. An acquaintance of his encouraged him to go see the animated film Martian Successor Nadesico: Prince of Darkness. Within that film is a character voiced by Koichi Yamadera who gives a dramatic performance before warping away; Yamadera's performance inspired Hosoya to the point where he distinctly remembers uttering, "I want to warp away like that too." Since the impact of the scene couldn't be easily replicated on stage, Hosoya decided that he wanted to be a voice actor. Hosoya continues to be inspired by Yamadera and is excited if they ever happen to work on the same project.
He graduated from Tokyo Announce Gakuin Performing Arts College before he attended Mausu Promotion's training program. During his voice actor debut in 2004, he was mainly given dubbing for foreign medians and bit roles in the animated industry. Hosoya's first major anime character role was Shichika Yasuri in Katanagatari. After his performances as Arata Wataya in Chihayafuru and Kuranosuke Shiraishi in the Prince of Tennis series, Hosoya gained many roles for media catering to the female market and a large female following.
Hosoya has a versatile vocal range which has led to roles ranging from the stern stoic to the friendly airhead. He has also voiced characters using the Osaka and Fukui dialects. A few of his other roles include Yamato Ishida in Digimon Adventure tri., Wave in Akame ga Kill!, Nobuyuki Sanada in Sengoku Basara Sanada Yukimura Den.
