Shigenobu Matsukura is a vassal of Tsutsui Junkei, serving as the "Ukon", or right hand, to Kiyooki Shima's "Sakon", or left hand, of their lord. He is the father of Shigemasa Matsukura.
Role in Games
Shigenobu Matsukura appears during Hisahide Matsunaga's rebellion in Samurai Warriors 4. He numbers among the few Oda forces who do not join Hisahide in rebellion. Matsukura tries to fight off Masanobu Honda and Yoshihisa Mori alongside Nagahide Niwa and his lord, Junkei Tsutsui. They will need help to prevail in their battle.
In his Nobunaga's Ambition series appearances, Shigenobu tends to have a good wisdom and politics stats but weak leadership and war stats.

Historical Information
Details around Matsukura Shigenobu are often conflicting, especially around the details of his birth and death. Shigenobu was born in 1538 as either the second son of Matsukura Masahide or his eldest son. The reason for this confusion is references to a Matsukura Katsunobu as a child of Masahide as well. Debate exists as to whether Katsunobu was another name for Shigenobu or an older sibling. Regardless, his clan was a major vassal of the Tsutsui and Shigenobu began his service under Tsutsui Junkei.
Alongside Shima Kiyooki and Mori Toshiyuki, Matsukura Shigenobu was among the most influential and important retainers of Junkei. Collectively, they were known as Tsutsui's three elders. His other title, the right hand or wing of Junkei, which Shima shared as the left hand or wing, has further debate surrounding it, as some sources claim that Matsuzo Hidemasa and Matsuda Zenshiro were the ones actually called Ukon and Sakon.
After the incident at Honnōji, Matsukura Shigenobu advised his lord to deny aid to Akechi Mitsuhide as the new Shogun squared off against Hashiba Hideyoshi at Yamazaki. Legends now known to be false added the dramatic flair that Tsutsui Junkei intended to support Mitsuhide and was marching south of Yamazaki, only for Shigenobu to approach his lord at Horaga-Toge Pass and advice him to take a "wait and see" approach to the fight, avoiding conflict with either side. Junkei had actually chosen to submit to Hideyoshi before that climatic battle, and Matsukura followed his lord's decision.
After Junkei died, Shigenobu served his son, Tsutsui Sadatsugu, for a very brief time. The brevity came primarily from Hideyoshi moving the Tsutsui clan to Iga province and Matsukura choosing to remain in Yamato province. Hideyoshi awarded him a fief in Yoshino, Yamato worth 8,000 koku of income.
