Sima You (onyomi: Shiba Yū) was the son of Sima Zhao and Wang Yuanji. He became the King of Qi, when his elder brother, Sima Yan became the first emperor of Jin Dynasty.
Roles in Games
In seventh installment of Dynasty Warriors, he appear in DLC of Tong Gate. He don't appear in main story.
In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, he appears around the late of the Three Kingdoms era. His stats are suitable, he look suitable in administration and recruit the officer. In his stats on leadership and war are moderate.
Historical Information
Sima You was the one of sons of Sima Zhao, but it is not clear whether he is the second or third son (some chronicle said he is the third, meanwhile Sima Anguo is the second). He became the foster son of Sima Shi because Sima Shi don't have son. When Sima Shi died in 255, Sima You mourned his adoptive father. He then took care of his adoptive mother, Yang Huiyu.
In 264, Sima Zhao tried to appointed Sima You as his successor but was oppose by senior retainers include Jia Chong, Pei Xiu, Shan Tao, He Ceng, Wang Xiang and Xun Yi. From this oppose, make Sima Zhao appointed Sima Yan as the successor. When Sima Zhao died in 265, Sima Yan force Cao Huan retire from the throne and established himself as emperor. Sima You was appointed as King of Qi, and he has develop the city and decrease the tax, made he beloved by the people.
Later, he was appointed as General of Agile Cavalry and he has made reforms inside and outside the royal court. In addition, he became the requiem general and the grand tutor of Prince Sima Zhong (was known as Emperor Hui of Jin). In 282, he took control the military work in Qingzhou.
Towards the end of Sima You's life was recorded in the literature "The chronicle of Western Jin" record that
" Emperor Wu (Sima Yan) believe in the instigation of a corrupt noble. Zhang Hua gave the warning to the emperor, along with introducing King of Qi (Sima You) to come to work in the capital. Emperor Wu agree and order Sima You come to the capital, but the corrupt noble, Xun Xu incite the emperor that "If your highness call Sima You come to capital, possibility that he will seized the throne to himself."
When the emperor listen to Xun Xu's word, he was believe and without pondering. So, the emperor order to Sima You wait outside the capital. When Sima You learned this order, he fell ill. At that time it was February, he was ill for two months and died of regret. "
Sima You died at the age of 37. His son, Sima Jiong was the one of the eight princes of Sima clan.
