Summary

Mitsunari's Chapter

As Mitsunari chides his troops to prepare their march for Sekigahara, he recalls a time when he first fought under Hideyoshi as a mere vassal during the Battle of Shizugatake. Together with Kiyomasa and Masanori, the three of them fight many battles to make their lord's vision a reality only to be crushed at the sight of him dying from illness. Mitsunari serves one last cup of tea to the daimyo which reminds them both of their first meeting. Putting on a stoic face to the dismay of his mourning friends, he cries for the clan's loss in private. The story ends with Mitsunari facing Kiyomasa and Masanori as enemies at Sekigahara with Sakon and Yoshitsugu standing by his side.

Masamune's Chapter

The chapter begins with Masamune ordering the death of his father to protect their clan. Although seemingly unaffected, his impulsive behavior at Koriyama concerns Kojūrō. Warned by Magoichi of the Toyotomi's demand for surrender, the young warlord scoffs at the notion of giving in to anyone and launches a hostile resistance in reply. However, when Kojūrō gets injured during an enemy ambush, Masamune remembers his father's last words and vows not to let anymore of his allies die because of him. He willingly capitulates to the Toyotomi, but ends up becoming an ally of the Tokugawa once Hideyoshi passes away. In one of their many battles, the Date army finds itself impeded by the appearance of Keiji whose presence does little to intimidate Masamune and his retainers.

Nobuyuki & Yukimura's Chapter

During one of their training sessions, a young Nobuyuki gives his brother Yukimura a family's heirloom for good luck. Years pass and the siblings have grown enough to defend Ueda Castle from the Tokugawa forces. Having made quick work of their foes, they receive a formal greeting from Ieyasu whose retainers, particularly Ina, intrigue Nobuyuki. Although their conflict with the Tokugawa ends thanks to the Toyotomi, it resurfaces once more when the two brothers argue who to align themselves with. Nobuyuki's marriage to Ina obligates him to side with the Eastern army while Yukimura wishes to join the Western army due to his friendship with Mitsunari. Though the two of them end up clashing in a deadlocked duel, Nobuyuki shields Yukimura from Hanzō's sneak attack, leaving him open to the latter's own hits. Having understood the value of the heirloom given to him, Yukimura spares his brother and leaves to fight another day.
