Atsuko Tanaka was a Japanese voice actor. Her family members included a younger sister and a son named Hikaru. She later succumbed to an undisclosed illness.
Having graduated with a degree in Japanese literature, she joined a performance art company while supporting herself as an office lady. As she took dancing lessons there, an acquaintance convinced her to sign up for Tokyo Announcement Academy's voice acting course. She graduated from the academy in 1991 and has since made a name for herself.
Tanaka was more or less close with some of her fellow voice actors. She became best friends with Kikuko Inoue, had a good working relationship with Rikiya Koyama, and even attended the same kindergarten class as Tōru Furusawa.
Acclaimed for her strong and sultry roles, Tanaka's deep vocal pitch was sometimes lent to more villainous archetypes. A Biglobe poll named her as the voice actor with the sexiest voice in 2012. A few of her roles included Karura in Utawarerumono, the titular protagonist in Bayonetta, and Konan in Naruto. She was also the dub voice for Nicole Kidman.
