Double Slash: Square Square: Delivers a quick swing and an arcing smack. Serves as the foundation for two combo attacks.
Mirrored Coiled Snake (虎燕肘擊; lit. "Tiger Swallow Elbow Strike"): Square Square Square: Extends Double Slash by adding a sweeping round slice.
Coiled Snake (虎燕迅擊; lit. "Tiger Swallow Swift Strike"): Square Square Triangle: Extends Double Slash by adding a frontal jab using the spear's blunt end.

Snake Mill (猛虎飛煽風; lit. "Fierce Tiger Flying Fanning Wind"): Near Opponent 🡺 🡾 🡻 🡿 🡸 Square: Performs a headlock spin using spear's shaft to entrap opponent.
Musou Attacks
Musou Slash Attack: 🡻 🡾 🡺 Square + X: Launches three different arcing slashes to severely damage the opponent.
True Musou Slash Attack: Low Health + 🡻 🡾 🡺 Square + X: Performs a more powerful variation of the Musou Slash combo that includes more arcing swipes to end the barrage.

Horse Musou Attack: Circle: Unleashes multiple slashes to both sides while riding.
Bow Attacks
Normal Shot: Hold R1 + Square: Shoots a normal arrow.

Fighting Style

Zhang Fei is a short-ranged fighter whose main strength lies in dueling officers. He will have trouble against characters who can outmaneuver his attacks or by those with faster attack speeds.

Main Attacks
Charge Attack 1: Triangle: Grabs an opponent with left hand. If the attack connects, Zhang Fei will slam his opponent on the ground hard. While this charge move is unable to utilize elemental properties via orbs, it is unblockable. Knocks away airborne foes and may have a bug occur where Zhang Fei grabs-and-throws nothing.
Charge Attack 2: Square Triangle: Knocks opponent into the air with a vertical strike using the spear's blunt end.
Charge Attack 3: Square Square Triangle: Performs wild round swings back and forth while treading forward. Zhang Fei immediately finishes up with a war cry that sends out a radial shockwave, staggering surrounding enemies momentarily that cannot KO enemies. Tap Triangle repeatedly for additional hits.
Charge Attack 4: Square Square Square Triangle: Does a low thrust that transitions into an unblockable grab move upon connecting. Once the impaled victim has been lifted up, they are then repeatedly shredded via overhead twirls before being flung away via turning swing. The final slash also disperses enemy crowds. Can occassionally bug-out where Zhang Fei performs the move without anything skewed by his spear.
Charge Attack 5: Square Square Square Square Triangle: Scoops enemies up into the air with an upward slash. Tapping Triangle again will have Zhang Fei leap up and cast airborne foes down with a strong swipe.
Charge Attack 6: Square Square Square Square Square Triangle: Stomps the ground hard to produce a powerful quake that trips nearby foes. Launches foes away on airborne hit.
Normal Attack 1: Square Square Square Square: Delivers an inward strike, a blunt hit, a downward slash, and a right-to-left swipe.

One of two taunting moves in the game that can cause direct harm, but cannot inflict unblockable stagger. Aura may change color in Free Mode to match the user's chosen side.

Dynasty Warriors Advance

Zhang Fei normally fights using the pikes in this title, though he also capable of performing his moveset with halberds and clubs.

Main Attacks
Charge Attack 1: A: Launches a short charging thrust.
Charge Attack 2: B A: Does an ascending swing that dizzies foes for a brief period of time. Effective against bowmen.
Charge Attack 3: B B A: Performs an overhead slicing motion, a swipe to the right, a spin slash, and an ascending strike. Enhancing the Chain power-up once turns the ascending strike into another spin slash to end the combo. A second enhancement will add another upward swing and a quick stab right before the second spin slash. Tap B repeatedly for additional hits. Effective against spearmen.
Charge Attack 4: B B B A: Unleashes a spinning slash attack. Enhancing the Reach power-up twice will have Zhang Fei do three spin slashes in a row. Effective against swordsmen.
Normal Attack: B B B: Lands a swipe towards the right, another to the left, and one last slash to the front. Can be cycled up to 9 hits depending on the weapon's overall stats.
Musou Attack: L + A: Performs a series of powerful swings surging with electrical currents. Its first few attack motions comprise of a spin slash, two swings done back and forth, and an ascending strike followed by an overhead smash as well as another spin slash. A second ascending slash is performed which then leads up to a side smack chained to yet another spin swipe. At this point, Zhang Fei continues the assault with a frontal stab, an upward slash, one last spin attack, and a final thrust for good measure.
Power-Ups

Storm: Enhances first charge attack.
Stun: Enhances second charge attack.

Samurai Warriors: State of War

Zhang Fei gains an additional skill in this title.

Sub-Officer Skill - Brewmaster: Causes allied sub-officers to drop Musou sake every 20 seconds during missions.
Charge Attack 1: Triangle: Dizzies foes with a left-handed punch.
Musou Attack: Circle: The animations are the same as in Dynasty Warriors 4, though it cannot be stopped until the player's Musou gauge is fully depleted. Similar to the Musou attacks employed by the Samurai Warriors cast, a shockwave burst is added at the end of the finisher.
Roll: R: Rolls on the ground to evade enemy attacks.

Fighting Style

When controlled by the AI, Zhang Fei's charge attacks will be imbued with the fire element by default. In Advance, he uses the blast element when fought as an enemy.

Charge Attack 3: Square Square Triangle: Performs wild round swings back and forth while treading forward. Zhang Fei immediately finishes up with a war cry that sends out a radial shockwave, staggering surrounding enemies momentarily.
Charge Attack 4: Square Square Square Triangle: Spins counterclockwise with weapon held up, then does a low sweeping swipe while turning away from the front. Disperses enemy crowds with far knockback.

Weapon Type: Spear
Skill - Defend: Allows the character to be more impervious to enemy attacks.
Proposed Policy 1 - Train: Trains an officer to raise their experience by a random amount.
Proposed Policy 2 - Capture: Halves the player's abilities for 30 seconds, but enables them to capture any enemy officer they defeat. Does not work on officers returning to the battlefield or appearing as reinforcements.
Proposed Policy 3 - Demoralize: Fully decreases the morale of all enemy units temporarily regardless of the player's supply lines.

Dynasty Warriors: Online

Although Zhang Fei's moveset is available for player avatars to make use of, the actual character can be temporarily controlled by using their corresponding spirit item.

Obstacle Effects
Obstacle Effect 1 - Stone Barrage: Drops three boulders on the enemy troops throughout the battlefield. Only available to rare card version.
Obstacle Effect 2 - Insert Dud: Adds a Dud to the enemy's obstacle roulette.
Main Attacks
Normal Attack: Lands an overhead slice on the player to knock them down.
Strong Attack: Stomps the ground to produce a radial shockwave, then unleashes a yellow whirlwind via spin swipe before dispersing it with a fierce rotating slash done vertically.

Warriors Orochi

Evolution Attack becomes a full natural part of his basic attack string and loses the first-person bow moveset. Gains a new ability.

Modified Attacks
Charge Attack 1: Triangle: The bursting stomp effect has less range than it did in the base game, though it now inflicts elemental damage. The sequel removes that trait entirely, but it can be replicated by wielding a weapon with the Almighty skill.
Charge Attack 2: Square Triangle: Functions similarly to its base game incarnation, but can break through the enemy's guard. Can inflict elemental damage, but the sequel removes that trait entirely unless replicated by equipping the Almighty skill.
Charge Attack 3: Square Square Triangle: Functions similarly to its base game incarnation, though the radial shockwave no longer inflicts elemental damage. The sequel rectifies this by enabling it to use weapon elements once again.
Charge Attack 6: Square Square Square Square Square Triangle: Functions similarly to its base game incarnation, though it no longer inflicts elemental damage. The sequel rectifies this by enabling it to use weapon elements once again.
New Attacks
Special Attack/Type Action: R1 (Sure-Killing Art): Throws a forward powerful cross punch nudges him forward a bit into a lunge. Knocks the target away at a very great distance and disperses enemy crowds. Consumes 60 Musou points.
Hyper Armor: Cannot be flinched with normal attacks while grounded, but does not reduce damage taken.
Team Abilities
Ability 1 - Vitality: Increases the team's life.
Ability 2 - Power: Increases attack of Power-type characters.

Warriors Orochi 2

Team Attacks
Assist Attack: Counter + L1 + Square or Triangle: Zhang Fei performs his sixth charge attack to assist a teammate. Consumes a portion of Musou.
Triple Attack 1: Low Health + L2 + R2 + Circle: Does a leaping slash that produces a large stream of wind.
Triple Attack 2: Low Health + L2 + R2 + Circle: Causes strong winds to rise from above by stomping on the ground.
Triple Attack 3: Low Health + L2 + R2 + Circle: Generates a large radial shockwave.
Triple Attack Finisher: Zhang Fei inflicts a series of quick strikes before landing a more fierce swipe towards his victims. As the whole team finishes up, a bright pillar of light generates at the intersection of their attack range and engulfs the surrounding area. Enemies caught by the blast sustain massive damage while being flung to the air and set on fire.
Unique Triple Attack: Low Health + L2 + R2 + Circle: If paired up with Guan Yu and Liu Bei, Zhang Fei will perform a coordinated attack with them to slaughter surrounding enemies. He begins the combo by stomping the ground hard enough to form an updraft of wind. At the same time, an energy link connecting him and his brothers materializes. Once the link forms the shape of an electrified triangle, the brothers then generate a bright green pillar of electricity that ravages the area around them.
Strategy - Face Off: Reduces overall damage inflicted upon all allied forces.

Fighting Style

When controlled by the AI in Dynasty Warriors 5, most of Zhang Fei's charge attacks will be imbued with the fire element by default.

Zhang Fei's range is still a problem in the Warriors Orochi games, though this is slightly mitigated by his status as a power-type character which enables him to tank a majority of normal attacks. His R1 special attack is great for one-on-one combat.

Musou Attack: Circle: Does an empowered version of the first to third Square Renbu string repeatedly with Zhang Fei ending the assault by driving his spear to the ground and yelling with enough force to clear foes away from him. Afterwards, he yanks his spear out and kicks up clumps of dirt to knock down nearby enemies.
True Musou Attack: Low Health + Circle: Similar to the regular Musou attack, but adds the fire attribute to each hit.

Dash Attack: Dashing + Square: Lands a quick slash using the spear's shorter blade.
Dash Charge: Dashing + Triangle: Does a wide round swing with the spear's longer blade. This move has some minor delay issues that make it risky to use in more difficult battles.
Jump Attack: X Square: Delivers a quick downward swing using the spear's longer bladed end.
Jump Charge: X Triangle: Rises a bit momentarily, then smashes the ground using the spear's bottom blade, causing nearby foes to lose their footing momentarily.

Special Move - Swift Attack: L2: Maximizes the user's Renbu gauge to infinite temporarily and prevents them from being flinched by enemy attacks. Also increases damage output if activated with low health.
Grapple Attacks
Grapple Attack: L1 + Square: Does a midway overhead strike that stops at Zhang Fei's torso level. If it connects, Zhang Fei will then smash the flat end of his blade twice on the opponent with the second hit done while hopping for added power.
Grapple Charge: L1 + Triangle: Shifts weapon to left hand and swings free arm forward. Upon catching someone, Zhang Fei will rotate his own body twice while dragging the victim around and hurling them away.

Fighting Style

In this title, Zhang Fei benefits immensely from the change in moveset due to having superior reach and hard-hitting attacks that have full-degree coverage. However, his movement speed remains one of the slowest which means who won't get too far without a horse for traveling purposes.

Main Attacks
Charge Attack 1: Stabs weapon into the ground to produce a strong tremor.
Charge Attack 2: Does an upward swing while stumbling during the attempt. Tapping Triangle again adds a lunging frontal thrust.

Midair Type Action: X R1: Delivers a left-handed punch while diving onto the ground, then twirls weapon with enough force to produce a whirlwind followed by a fierce outward swing that knocks away.
Hyper Armor: Passive: Cannot be flinched with normal attacks while grounded, but does not reduce damage taken. However, getting staggered or stunned causes subsequent normal attacks to normally flinch on grounded hit for the combo.
Normal Strategy Card: Swallow's Rage (燕人の閧; lit. "Yan-Man's War Cry"): Increases current officer's attack power. Becomes more effective with the Man of Benevolence card active.

Zhang Fei for his part starts the attack by launching several horizontal swings that release energy waves on the enemies in front of him.

Zhang Fei is affiliated with the twin pike in this title. When equipped with it, Zhang Fei can perform the following unique attacks listed below.

EX Attack 1: Square Square Triangle Triangle: Does a powerful batting slash that immediately sends foes in front of Zhang Fei airborne, leaving them vulnerable to further juggling combos. Has a chance of activating the slash element to instantly kill off weaker foes, but no longer activates any other weapon elements.
EX Attack 2: Triangle Triangle: Zhang Fei drinks some wine to grant himself a fiery aura buff (that has a brief hitbox) that briefly increases his attack speed and damage output for 20 seconds. The buff itself fades instantly once he switches to a different weapon. Note that using this ability four or more times will cause Zhang Fei to undergo a state of drunkenness, leaving him more vulnerable to enemy attacks. Introduced in Xtreme Legends.
Musou Attack - Giant's Throw (金剛大旋風; lit. "Diamond Great Whirlwind"): Circle: Violently bursts forth in an attempt to grab hold of an enemy. If it connects, Zhang Fei will hold the victim by their heels, spin on the spot several times while covered in a green whirlwind, then toss them out with enough force to generate a shockwave burst that sends other foes flying. Each of the spins can inflict slash damage, making it ideal to use against enemy officers.
Alternate Musou Attack - Titan Whirlwind (双星羅漢撃; lit. "Twin Star Arhat Strike"): R1 + Circle: Does a wide diagonal scooping slash to launch enemies high, then performs slanted overhead twirls to continuously juggle them while generating harsh winds. The attack ends with Zhang Fei sending his victims flying with one last reaping slash that leaves a bright green energy trail. The first and final blow can guard-break.
Aerial Musou Attack - Mighty Shout (双星極震脚; lit. "Twin Star Extreme Quake Leg"): X Circle: Stomps the ground hard before releasing a powerful war cry that scatters surrounding enemies.
Rage Attack: Unleashes downward slashes back and forth multiple times while taking heavy steps along the way. At the end of the assault, Zhang Fei briefly pauses before doing a fierce wide slash that generates a radial energy shockwave.
True Rage Attack: Should Zhang Fei perform 100 hits during a Rage attack, he will start swinging upward from left to right in a wilder manner while running forth with his weapon coated in flames. He then stops to deliver a few diagonal swipes to the front before unleashing the default shockwave attack.

Strong Attack 4 - Tsunami Charge (夜叉分海衝; lit. "Yaksha Dividing Sea Resistance"): Launches the enemy into the air with multiple ascending slashes before delivering an impaling strike to heavily damage foes. In the Japanese server, it does additional shield damage. Has a cooldown time of 38 seconds (20 seconds in the Japanese server).

Special Attacks
Musou Attack: Circle: Zhang Fei performs Titan Whirlwind as their ground Musou attack.
Normal Magic: R1 + Square: Releases a blue ball of light that turns into a vortex of water upon being near potential targets, sucking their bodies in and leaving them susceptible to regular attacks. The ball's traveling speed is slow by default, but does become faster when activated while running. Though its ability to home in on foes is exceptional, it will not respond to downed enemies.
Charge Magic: R1 + Triangle: Locks unto enemies surrounding the user and launches light projectiles that send them flying. The more enemies caught by this spell, the more damage it can inflict, making it a better alternative to certain unique magic attacks.
Unique Magic: R1 + Circle: Zhang Fei gulps down the Nectar to further enhance his strength, allowing him to let out a war cry that instantly knocks nearby opponents back while boosting his attack power for 26 seconds. The buff effect serves as an alternative to his second EX attack.
Summon Magic: R1 + X: Summons mount to Zhang Fei's side.

Zhang Fei is affiliated with the spear and serpent blade in this title. When equipped with them, Zhang Fei can perform the following unique attacks listed below.

Unique Attacks
Unique Flow Attack Finisher (Spear): Enemy Stunned + Square Square Square Square: Finishes the stun flow attack string by lifting foe to the air with a fierce batting strike while pivoting on one foot. Can be followed up with an airborne flow attack afterwards.
Unique Flow Attack Finisher (Serpent Blade): Enemy Downed + Square Square Square Square: Impales a nearby enemy and slams them on the ground twice before unleashing a wide spin slash that sends the victim as well as other surrounding foes flying away. Though this move is derived from the twin pike's sixth charge attack in the eighth game, its direction can no longer be maneuvered.
Unique Trigger Attack (Spear): R1 + Triangle: Leaps up and rotates spear like a windmill to launch foes into the air. This move is derived from Zhang Fei's default special move in Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce.
Unique Trigger Attack (Serpent Blade): R1 + X: Stomps the ground with right foot before delivering a downward sweeping strike to unbalance nearby foes. Based on the twin pike's fourth charge in the last installment.
Special Technique: R1 + Circle: Drinks wine before unleashing a war cry shockwave stomp of fire. Combines aspects of the twin pike's first charge and Zhang Fei's second EX attack combo from the previous installment, but done in reverse (as C1-EX>C1).
Musou Attack: Circle: Unleashes downward diagonal slashes back and forth repeatedly while taking heavy steps along the way. The finisher has Zhang Fei perform several rotating swipes infused with lightning to juggle foes continuously, then cast them down with one large diagonal strike that produces an electric whirlwind. Combines Zhang Fei's Rage attack and Titan Whirlwind Musou attack from the last game.
Aerial Musou Attack: X Circle: Stomps the ground hard to send foes airborne before blasting them away with a flame-producing roar that inflicts fire damage. Based on Zhang Fei's Mighty Shout Musou from the last game, but altered from a physical-based move to an elemental one.
Horse Maneuvers
Summon Horse: L2: Summon horse to the battlefield. Holding L2 as the horse approaches will allow the character to automatically mount them.
Auto-Run: Riding Mode + L2: Automatically runs towards a specified destination. If a destination has not been set, the horse will instead run towards the location of the player's currently selected mission.
Sprint: Riding Mode + Direction + R1: Causes horse to run at a faster pace. Doing so depletes their stamina each time.
Jump: Riding Mode + Direction + R2: Causes horse to jump high while running.
Horse Fast Attack: Riding Mode + Square: Performs a fast and seamless attack while mounted. The attack itself varies depending on what type of weapon is equipped and whether the enemy is grounded or airborne.

Normal Evasion: Does a normal evasion maneuver on the ground to avoid enemy attacks. Can only be performed by attack-type and special-type versions of Zhang Fei.
Swift Evasion: Hovers in the air to avoid enemy attacks in an instant. Can only be performed by speed-type and snipe-type versions of Zhang Fei.
Piercing Evasion: Charges forth while hunched to avoid enemy attacks while dealing chip damage to foes blocking the way. Can only be performed by defense-type versions of Zhang Fei.
