Basic Attacks
High Smash: Square: Launches a round swing to the front.
High Thrust: Triangle: Thrusts club at an upward angle.
Uppercut Smash: 🡾 + Square: Performs an uppercut swing while standing up.
Mid Smash: 🡾 + Triangle: Does a mid thrust with one leg raised up.
Low Smash: 🡻 + Square: Swings club at a downward angle while crouching. Also hits fallen opponents.
Low Thrust: 🡻 + Triangle: Does a more angled version of the Mid Smash motion. Also hits fallen opponents.
Rear Smash: Facing Away Square or Triangle: Turns around and smacks the opponent's rear with a simple swing.
Rear Sweep: Facing Away 🡻 + Square or Triangle: Sweeps opponent off their feet with a downward swipe while turning around.
Pogo: 🡹 + Square or Triangle: Leaps forth while riding on club like a pogo stick. Upon making impact, Xu Zhu lies down exhausted, requiring players to button tap in order to get up. Also hits fallen enemies.
Hammer Lift (背骨碎; lit. "Spine Break"): Near Opponent Square + Triangle: Performs a back-breaking bear hug on the opponent via crushing them with his club's shaft.
Combo Attacks
Cannonball (連轟跳鎚; lit. "Chain Boom Leaping Hammer"): Square Square 🡹 + Square: Unleashes a round swing followed by an overhead slam and a raised strike.
Cannonball Dive (連轟砲; lit. "Chain Boom Cannon"): Square Triangle Triangle: Does a round swing followed by a thrust done upward and another directed to the opponent's midsection.
Toe Smasher (連轟散砲; lit. "Chain Boom Scatter Cannon"): Square Triangle Triangle Triangle: Extends Cannonball Dive by adding a thrust directed to the opponent's feet.
Iron Fist (連轟墜; lit. "Chain Boom Crash"): Triangle Square Square: Thrusts club forward, then swings to the right before unleashing an overhead strike.
Below the Belt (連轟散彈; lit. "Chain Boom Scatter Bullet"): Triangle Triangle Triangle: Similar to Toe Smasher, but eschews the round swing to simplify the combo.

Musou Attacks
Musou Slash Attack: 🡻 🡾 🡺 Square + X: Launches a powerful uppercut swing, a spin slash, and an overhead slam.
True Musou Slash Attack: Low Health + 🡻 🡾 🡺 Square + X: Performs a more powerful variation of the Musou Slash combo that includes a rightward swing and a round batting strike.
Musou Thrust Attack: 🡻 🡾 🡺 Triangle + Circle: Launches an upward thrust and midsection stab followed by a short club ram done sideways.
True Musou Thrust Attack: Low Health + 🡻 🡾 🡺 Triangle + Circle: Performs a more powerful variation of the Musou Thrust combo that adds another side ram and a club-riding hop traveling at a good distance. Xu Zhu is left lying down in exhaustion after performing the move.
Maneuvers
Block Slash: X: Raises club upward to thwart slash attacks.
Block Thrust: Circle: Holds up club diagonally to block thrust attacks. Also nudges Xu Zhu slightly forward.
Sidestep: X + Circle: Sidesteps away from an incoming attack.
Back Away: 🡸 🡸: Quickly backs away from an opponent.
Lunge: 🡺 🡺: Quickly lunges at an opponent.

Main Attacks
Charge Attack 1: Triangle: Swings weapon around counterclockwise, breaking the enemy's guard stance.
Charge Attack 2: Square Triangle: Punts enemies to the air by swinging club upward to the left. Has the highest launching elevation among other second charge attacks to compensate for Xu Zhu's slow hit speed.
Charge Attack 3: Square Square Triangle: Launches an overhead strike. Stuns grounded foes while knocking back airborne ones.
Charge Attack 4: Square Square Square Triangle: Delivers a massive batting swing with club, knocking foes away at a great distance.
Normal Attack: Square Square Square Square: Does two circular swings from left and right, then raises club upward before slamming it down.
Musou Attacks
Musou Attack: Circle: Swings club around in circles counterclockwise until Xu Zhu collapses from exhaustion. The hitting motion is based on his old Body Buster move from the first game.
Auxiliary Attacks
Dash Attack: Dashing + Square: Rolls on the ground twice to unbalance nearby foes.
Jump Attack: X Square: Slams club unto the ground via pogo ride. Can hit twice if positioned correctly. This move is essentially his old Pogo attack from the first game.
Counter Attack: L1 + Square: Rams club sideways at enemy, knocking them a short distance away.
Horse Attacks
Horse Charge Attack: Triangle: Delivers a powerful swing to both sides while on horseback. Can be performed while in the middle of doing the normal horse attack string.
Horse Normal Attack: Square Square Square Square: Lugs club around to the right and left twice in a row.
Horse Musou Attack: Circle: Delivers Musou-charged swings back and forth.
Bow Attacks
Normal Shot: Hold R1 + Square: Shoots a normal arrow.
Charge Shot: Hold R1 + Triangle: Fires a charged shot that dazes the target.
Musou Shot: Hold R1 + Circle: Unleashes a Musou-powered arrow that knocks enemies down. Can fire multiple shots rapidly so long as the user has enough Musou.

Fighting Style

Due to his immense strength, Xu Zhu carries around powerful, heavy weapons, resulting in stronger attacks that take longer to perform. His main moves involving simple strikes to harm others, although he often uses attacks that pound the ground and knock down all of his surrounding enemies.

However, his weaknesses happen to be his slow running speed and his Musou attack being hard to juggle with despite its high damage output. Players will need to equip him with fast mounts like Red Hare in order to effectively traverse large maps.

Charge Attack 6: Square Square Square Square Square Triangle: Positions club to chest while hopping forward, knocking foes into the air. Continuously tapping Triangle adds more hops before leaping up to perform a powerful butt stomp.
Normal Attack 1: Square Square Square Square: Does two circular swings from left and right, then raises club upward with an ascending swipe before slamming it down.
Normal Attack 2: Square Square Square Square Square: Similar to the first normal attack string, but turns the fourth hit sequence into a rightward swipe followed by a spinning slash done counterclockwise.
Normal Attack 3: Square Square Square Square Square Square: Similar to the second normal attack string, but changes the fifth hit sequence to an upward swing to the left while adding a hopping slam to serve as the combo finisher.
Musou Attacks
Musou Attack: Circle: Swings club around in circles counterclockwise until Xu Zhu collapses from exhaustion.
True Musou Attack: Low Health + Circle: Similar to the normal Musou animation, but adds several more spins that emanate trails of energy for additional range.

Charge Attack 5: Square Square Square Square Triangle: After delaying for a bit, Xu Zhu lifts foes high up into the air with an ascending vertical swing. Press Triangle to follow up the attack with a batting swipe in the air.

Announcement: R3: Xu Zhu taunts foes by patting his stomach while generating wisps of light around him. Can pierce through the enemy's defenses, leaving them staggered for a brief moment. Aura may change color in Free Mode to match the user's chosen side.

Dynasty Warriors (PSP)

Xu Zhu gains additional abilities and traits in this title.

Ability - Ordinance: Increases the number of supplies acquired when capturing storehouses.
Boost - Healing +: Gradually refills the party's life gauge at a fast rate.
Skill - Strike ++: Doubles the party's attack power for 30 seconds and restores their Musou gauge.

Dynasty Warriors Advance

Xu Zhu normally fights using the club in this title, though he also capable of performing his moveset with halberds and pikes.

Main Attacks
Charge Attack 1: A: Does a charging rush with weapon held to the front.
Charge Attack 2: B A: Dazes enemies by lifting weapon upwards. Effective against bowmen.
Charge Attack 3: B B A: Launches an ascending swing followed by two swings done back and forth. Enhancing the Chain power-up once adds a spin slash at the end of the attack. A second enhancement includes a short thrust as the finisher instead. Tap B repeatedly for additional hits. Effective against spearmen.
Charge Attack 4: B B B A: Knocks surrounding foes away with a rotating slash attack. Enhancing the Reach power-up twice will let Xu Zhu perform rotating slashes thrice in a row. Effective against swordsmen.
Normal Attack: B B B: Swings weapon to the right, left, and front. Can be cycled up to 9 hits depending on the weapon's overall stats.
Musou Attack: L + A: Unleashes several powerful swings radiating with electricity. The first half of the attack consists of a spin swipe, a frontal strike to the right and left, an upward slash, an overhead smack, and another spinning attack. The second half's hit motion set is performed twice and comprises of an ascending strike, a rightward swipe, a spin slash, and a hopping thrust.
Power-Ups

Storm: Enhances first charge attack.
Stun: Enhances second charge attack.
Chain: Enhances third charge attack.
Reach: Enhances fourth charge attack.

Samurai Warriors: State of War

Xu Zhu gains an additional skill in this title.

Sub-Officer Skill - Gluttony: Causes enemy soldiers to drop more recovery items during missions.
Charge Attack 1: Triangle: Stuns foes with a simple punch.
Musou Attack: Circle: The animations are the same as in Dynasty Warriors 4, though it cannot be stopped until the player's Musou gauge is fully depleted. Similar to the Musou attacks employed by the Samurai Warriors cast, a shockwave burst is added at the end of the finisher.
Roll: R: Rolls on the ground to evade enemy attacks.

Fighting Style

When controlled by the AI, Xu Zhu's charge attacks will be imbued with the lightning element by default. In Advance, he uses the blast element when fought as an enemy.

Charge Attack 2: Square Triangle: Punts enemies to the air by swinging club upward to the left. Cannot activate elemental effects provided by orbs.
Charge Attack 3: Square Square Triangle: Pulverizes foes with repeated overhead slams, ending the attack with a powerful smash that dizzies opponents.
Charge Attack 4: Square Square Square Triangle: Delivers a massive batting swing with club, knocking foes away at a great distance.
Charge Attack 5: Square Square Square Square Triangle: Slams weapon on the ground hard while using own body weight for added power. Attack produces a launching circle that knocks nearby enemies high up into the air.

Skill - Rally: Boosts own morale by 2 and those of nearby allies by 1.
Proposed Policy 1 - Hard March: Enables the player to move to an area not adjacent to their borders. Valid only for 1 turn.
Proposed Policy 2 - Slow March: Decreases all enemy units' speed for 2 minutes. Can cancel out the effects of Force March.

Dynasty Warriors: Online

Although Xu Zhu's moveset is available for player avatars to make use of, the actual character can be temporarily controlled by using their corresponding spirit item.

Dynasty Warriors Vol. 2

Xu Zhu gains additional abilities and traits in this title.

Ability - Recovery ++: Restores the party's life gauge by 200 points.
Support Skill 1 - Ranger: Prevents damage when crossing mountains.
Support Skill 2 - Vigor: Raises attack power if the player's level is between 1 to 5.
Charge Attack 2: Square Triangle: Works similarly to how it did in the base game, but is now made unblockable after being given an inherent light element.

Dynasty Warriors DS: Fighter's Battle

Obstacle Effects
Obstacle Effect 1 - Stone Barrage: Drops three boulders on the enemy troops throughout the battlefield.
Obstacle Effect 2 - Steal Coins: Steals any amount of coins the opponent has. Only available to rare card version.
Main Attacks
Normal Attack: Lands a quick rotating swing to knock down the player.
Strong Attack: Slams club on the ground hard. As Xu Zhu slowly picks up his weapon, he then jumps high into the air and drops down to strike the floor with enough force to produce a wide tremor.

Warriors Orochi

Modified Attacks
Charge Attack 1: Triangle: The bursting stomp effect has less range than it did in the base game, though it now inflicts elemental damage. The sequel removes that trait entirely, but it can be replicated by wielding a weapon with the Almighty skill.
Charge Attack 2: Square Triangle: Functions similarly to its base game incarnation, but can break through the enemy's guard.
New Attacks
Special Attack: R1: Jumps high and slams belly-first on the ground, heavily damaging enemies below. Cannot be guarded against. Consumes 50 Musou points. Much easier to maneuver in the sequel.
Hyper Armor: Prevents enemies from interrupting combos with normal attacks.
Team Abilities
Ability 1 - Karma: Increases the chances of finding better weapons and more items on the battlefield.
Ability 2 - Vitality: Increases the team's life.
Ability 3 - Power: Increases attack of Power-type characters.
Ability 4 - Refill: Gradually regains the team's Musou.

Warriors Orochi 2

Team Attacks
Assist Attack: Counter + L1 + Square or Triangle: Xu Zhu performs his fourth charge attack to assist a teammate. Consumes a portion of Musou.
Triple Attack 1: Low Health + L2 + R2 + Circle: Swings weapon with enough force to produce a strong gust of wind.

Strong Attack 1 (Break): Lands a short but forceful tackle that deals 200% attack damage to enemies in front of Xu Zhu. Its bonus effect allows it to deal an additional 380% attack damage on hit and greatly reduces their super armor bar. The effect itself triggers every 30 seconds.
Strong Attack 1 (Armor): Lifts club diagonally to the upper right with one hand and smashes it hard on the ground using two hands, inflicting a total of 240% attack damage. Its bonus effect grants nearby friendly units a shield that adds a 9% bonus to their health, a 30% damage reduction, and a minor super armor effect. It lasts for 8 seconds and triggers every 40 seconds.
Strong Attack 1 (Gather): Stomps on the ground twice with each knee lifted one at a time, producing two quake effects that deal a total of 280% attack damage to surrounding foes. Its bonus effect deals an additional 18% damage to all enemy troops within range and pulls them closer to the user. The effect itself triggers every 10 seconds.
Strong Attack 2: Flings foes into the air with a spinning upward swipe. Deals 180% attack damage.
Strong Attack 3: Executes two spinning swings done counterclockwise and a horizontal swipe to the left, dealing a total of 400% attack damage.

Enemy-Only Attack: As a Joint War boss in the Fierce Battle at Mount Rang mission, Xu Zhu will regularly cause fire barrels to appear and cause them to detonate by performing his sumo stomp attack. The ensuing explosion inflicts massive damage, so destroying the larger barrels first should be the player's top priority. Alternatively, performing a Musou attack right before Xu Zhu stomps the ground enables the maneuver to be evaded entirely.

Enemy-Only Attack - Rain of Fire Arrows: Summons a rain of fire arrows to constantly track the player's movements and damage them. Sets targets on fire instantly. Used by Xu Zhu in the first tier mission of the Xu Province expedition stage.

Rage Attack: Bashes the ground multiple times while hopping forward at a steady pace. At the end of the move, Xu Zhu launches one final butt stomp that releases a sudden burst of energy outward.
True Rage Attack: By accumulating 100 or more hits during his Rage attack, Xu Zhu will change his attack pattern by punching foes left and right while balancing his twirling club from one hand to the other repeatedly. Near the cycle's completion, he then grabs his club in time to use it as an anchor when performing a bum rush with his rear.

Main Attacks
Strong Attack 1 - Earthly Mace (ふきとばすぞお; lit. "Blow Them Away"): Spins own weapon furiously to send nearby enemies flying. Has a cooldown time of 20 seconds (10 seconds in the Japanese server).
Strong Attack 2 - Spinning Comet (まわるぞお; lit. "Let's Spin Around"): Charges forward while delivering furious spin swipes, ending the barrage with one last strike to blow away foes. Also imbues Xu Zhu with a temporary shield effect that lasts for 10 seconds (6 seconds in the Japanese server). Has a cooldown time of 25 seconds (12 seconds in the Japanese server).
Strong Attack 3 - Stone Crush (つぶしちまうぞお; lit. "Crush Them"): Smashes own weapon into the ground, producing a massive tremor in the process. Also dizzies foes in the Japanese server. Has a cooldown time of 31 seconds (16 seconds in the Japanese server).
Strong Attack 4 - Power Roll (ころがるぞお; lit. "Let's Roll"): Generates a surge of blue energy before thrust hopping forth once. Also improves Xu Zhu's personal defense by 25% for 10 seconds. The Japanese server boosts the buff's effect to 60% for 5 seconds. Has a cooldown time of 38 seconds (20 seconds in the Japanese server).
Normal Attack: Performs their preferred weapon's normal attack string.
Special Attacks
Musou Attack - Roly Poly (ころがるぞお; lit. "Let's Roll"): Curls up into a ball and rolls forward while smashing into foes blocking the way. In the Japanese server, the move also raises Xu Zhu's defense power by 50% for 5 seconds. Gets overriden by the character's Rage attack once all three Musou gauges have been filled up.
Musou Rage Attack: Performs Rage attack once all three Musou gauges have been filled up.
Switch Attack: Slams the earth hard to create a damaging tremor that scatters surrounding enemies.
Special Maneuver - Repel: Knocks away surrounding foes and stuns them.
Team Attacks
Triple Attack 1: Performs a shortened version of Earthly Mace to contribute to the combo.

Warriors Orochi 4

While retaining the same moveset from Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends, Xu Zhu wields the Cerberus as their sacred treasure in this title. When equipped with it, Xu Zhu can perform the following attacks listed below.

Special Attacks
Musou Attack: Circle: Xu Zhu performs Roly Poly as their ground Musou attack.
Normal Magic: R1 + Square: Sends out a trail of ice that freezes enemies in front of the user at a considerable distance. Can hit foes within a fairly wide range while immobilizing them. Best used for quickly thinning out enemy crowds or escaping them outright.
Charge Magic: R1 + Triangle: Locks unto visible foes and pelts them with an array of tracking ice spheres while standing still. Enemies struck by the spheres will be flung into the air momentarily before falling down. Can also hit collapsed foes, giving the attack combo building potential.
Unique Magic: R1 + Circle: Xu Zhu swings Cerberus downward, slamming them on the earth and breaking the chains binding them. The sudden impact causes their heads to grow several times their normal size. They then proceed to roll forward repeatedly with Xu Zhu tumbling alongside them.
Summon Magic: R1 + X: Summons mount to Xu Zhu's side.

Unity Magic Bonus: Power +4, Technique +4, Speed +1
Musou Effect - Empower: Temporarily raises attack, defense, and hit speed. Only applies in Battle Arena.

Xu Zhu is affiliated with the club in this title. When equipped with it, Xu Zhu can perform the following unique attacks listed below.

Unique Attacks
Unique Flow Attack Finisher: Enemy Airborne + Square Square Square Square: Xu Zhu's finishing move for his flow attack involves him slamming his club on the ground and pole vaulting on top of it to perform a shockwave-inducing body slam.
Unique Trigger Attack: R1 + Square: Rolls forward on the ground while holding club horizontally, stunning nearby foes along the way. Based on the club moveset's first charge attack in previous installments.
Special Technique: R1 + Circle: Harms enemies by pole vaulting forward twice before riding on club to apply further damage. Each hit inflicts poison damage while the last strike can launch foes in the air briefly. Based on Xu Zhu's second EX attack from Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends.
Musou Attack: Circle: Delivers several fierce overhead slams to the front while lugging club in a circular manner after each hit. Xu Zhu then finishes the attack by rolling on the ground while surrounded by powerful winds and causing foes to disperse by outstretching his whole body in the end. Takes cues from his Roly Poly Musou in previous games and Rage attack in the prior title.
Aerial Musou Attack: X Circle: Does a body slam from a considerable height, causing immense damage to foes caught within the attack while electrocuting them at the same time. Based on Xu Zhu's Unbeatable Musou attack from the eighth installment.
Horse Maneuvers
Summon Horse: L2: Summon horse to the battlefield. Holding L2 as the horse approaches will allow the character to automatically mount them.
Auto-Run: Riding Mode + L2: Automatically runs towards a specified destination. If a destination has not been set, the horse will instead run towards the location of the player's currently selected mission.
Sprint: Riding Mode + Direction + R1: Causes horse to run at a faster pace. Doing so depletes their stamina each time.
Jump: Riding Mode + Direction + R2: Causes horse to jump high while running.
Horse Fast Attack: Riding Mode + Square: Performs a fast and seamless attack while mounted. The attack itself varies depending on what type of weapon is equipped and whether the enemy is grounded or airborne.
Horse Trigger Attack: Riding Mode + Triangle: Performs an attack that sends enemies flying into the air. May vary depending on what type of weapon is equipped.
Horse Musou Attack: Riding Mode + Circle: Causes horse to sprint by consuming Musou instead of stamina.
Dismount Horse: Riding Mode + X: Dismounts from horse and resumes default fighting stance.
Bow Maneuvers
Shooting Mode: 🡻: Pulls out bow and assumes archery stance. Can be cancelled by tapping 🡻 again.
Switch Arrows: 🡸 or 🡺: Switches between different types of arrows.
Bow Attack: Shooting Mode + Square: Fires current arrow at a target. Can lock on targets by tapping R3.

Missile Attack: Leaps into the air and fires a projectile that turns into a large tornado upon hitting the ground. Does decent damage from a distance, but cannot deplete the target's spirit. This move is mostly available to snipe-type versions of Xu Zhu.
Recover Attack: Performs separating attack from the base game while generating a healing circle that gradually restores health. Has no elemental variations with each upgraded version. This move is mostly available to special-type versions of Xu Zhu.
