Wolf

From Koei Tecmo Wiki

The Wolf is a mammal and member of the canine family. They can be often found in groups known as "wolf packs" that travel together. Sometimes, they are led by a leader, or alpha male, and if it is defeated, the rest of the pack may lose nerve and flee from an enemy in fright after losing their pack leader.

Role in Games

Wolves appear in Dynasty Warriors 9 and often are found in large groups of at least a dozen of them together as a single wolf pack. They can sometimes be found engaging the playable characters alongside a Bandit Chief or Bandit Head Chief alongside their regular infantrymen in most wooded areas around China, but also in some of the more hilly or rocky regions of the country.

Aside from the regular wolves, there are white, black, and silver variants that are much stronger than the standard versions. White wolves are usually found in the snowy parts of China, silver wolves around central or western China, north or south of Chengdu, and black wolves in some of the more fertile lands, such as around the Changjiang river around Chibi, Wulin, and those parts of Yang or Jing Provinces. Further updates allowed for these animals to be captured via baited large box traps or through the use of tranquilizer arrows and thus used as battle animals by the player's character. The arrows are more effective when the Companion Animals Acquisition daily bonus is active.

Wolves can be sold at stables in the various towns and cities around China for special items called "Wolf's Delicacy" that can be used to upgrade them. More gold can be earned for selling a higher level wolf that has been used in battle and grown stronger from experience with the player's character.

Wolves all come with the skill "Shocking Roar", where when a player takes damage, they will unleash a shockwave to throw the enemy back and give the player a chance to recover and retaliate, and come in several types like all combat-based animals in Power, Defense, and Stamina with random stats in health, attack, and defense upon initial capture. Their normal attacks are lunges into the target to knock them down, a swing of their heads to try and bite them which also knocks the target down, and occasionally grappling onto the intended victim and biting them several times before letting go.

Wolf Pack and Wolf Pack - Revisited

Later updates introduced the much stronger and powerful boss animal Wolf Pack and its stronger variant, Wolf Pack - Revisited, which can be found at their respective Cursed Stone locations in the vast wilderness of the Wu Territory along the southeastern coast of China. Wolf Pack looks like a larger version of a Silver Wolf, while the Revisited version looks like a larger version of a Black Wolf.

Wolf Packs and their stronger Revisited counterparts mainly use wind-based attacks in combat, including cloaking themselves in a protective wind barrier to damage enemies that stray too close. If allowed to get to full strength, their wind barriers become much stronger and deadlier, as do their own attacks. When fought at their Cursed Stone locations, they can summon several black or silver wolves to aid them in battle that use wind attacks as well, and should any be slain, more will spawn whenever the boss or one of the surviving wolves howl for assistance.

Wolf Pack and Wolf Pack - Revisited can be captured with tranquilizer arrows, but only when their Break Gauges are depleted to render the arrows effective, especially when boosted during the Companion Animals Acquisition daily bonus.

Selling Wolf Pack and Wolf Pack - Revisited awards the "Beast's Delicacy" that can be used to upgrade the boss animals with.
