Welcome

Hi, thanks for editing and welcome to Koei Wiki! If this is your first time on a wiki and you need help on getting started on editing, I'd suggest reading the following below:

  • Completely new to editing? Read and browse Wikia's beginner's guide to get started.
  • New to wikis and confused by wikia's syntax and markup system? Read here or here to get a quick overview.
  • Want to test out how your edits will look? Create a sandbox. Sandboxes allow you to test and experiment with your edits. You can create your own sandbox by clicking here.
  • Follow the guidelines listed in our style guide to improve the look and consistency of our articles!
  • Be sure to read and pay close attention to the rules stipulated in our uploading policy when uploading an image.
  • Do not contribute writings that are not your own. This includes copying and pasting sections of articles from different websites.

Ready to help out? Here's a few things you can do to pitch in:

  • Help complete the goals set out in the wiki's To Do List.
  • Expand articles that are marked as stubs.
  • Fill in missing movesets and fighting style descriptions on the character pages.
  • Create new pages the wiki needs.

Nice Work Function

I'm not entirely sure what this new function does, but I believe it's something the staff included just to encourage or praise other editors. Humble Novice (talk) 15:38, September 1, 2016 (UTC)

Article edits

I'm pretty sure this is not intentional, but please do not wholesale delete entire sections of the articles you edit. I just had to go back and undo all of your recent edits because they all had entire chunks of the articles blanked out which removed character galleries and categories. Please use the preview function before you make any changes in the future. Kyosei (talk) 06:10, January 1, 2017 (UTC)

Shit...I'm really sorry about that.....I seriously have NO IDEA why that's happening; I've been doing edits and for some reason that bs happens..... SneaselSawashiro (talk) 09:11, January 1, 2017 (UTC)

Your best bet would be to use the source editor from now on because it's simple to use and provides more control over one's added content. Humble Novice (talk) 20:16, January 1, 2017 (UTC)
We already get that Archlich's Tumblr page is a good reference for ROTK-related information, so can you please stop advertising it like crazy? You make it seem like we're ignorant for not being aware of this site's existence. And also, a lot of your contributions have little to do with Koei games in general and only serve as unnecessary fluff. Kindly cut them down to concise sentences if possible, please. Humble Novice (talk) 20:14, January 2, 2017 (UTC)
Sake had a good reason for removing your changes on Cao Cao's symbolism section. Don't simply revert them like you tried to do with that Zhuge Liang trivia. Humble Novice (talk) 21:50, December 25, 2017 (UTC)

Voice actor info

I don't really think that mentioning Basara roles for all of the seiyuus here is a right thing. And here's why: aside rfrom Sengoku Musou and Sengoku Basara there's a countless number of othere Sengoku-related games, anime and CD dramas. Let's take Ryotaro Okiayu, for example: aside from all Sengoku characters in Koei games and Basara's Hideyoshi he also voiced Sasaki Kojiro in Onimusha: Blade Warriors, Kirigakure Saizo in Sengoku Bishōjo Emaki Kūwokiru!!, Kakei Juuzo in Brave 10, Nobunaga in Honoo no Shinkiro, Takeda Shingen in Iza, Shutsujin! Rensen Dainimaku 〜 Kai-hen 〜 and Sengoku Bushou Monogatari 〜 Daimyou-hen Sono Ichi 〜, Uesugi Kenshin in Tenkabito, Date Masamune in Kanetsugu to Keiji. And there probably more, I didn't search for too long. Needless to say, all of these portrayals are different to Koei versions of the said characters. And such situation is there for almost every popular voice actor. So I don't think pointing out "person X also voiced a different portrayal of the historical character Y in Sengoku Basara" is fair. AntonKutovoi (talk) 10:39, March 26, 2017 (UTC)

This wiki always goes by how the actor spells their name personally or by how it appears on their official profile. The fact that they even bothered to write this out in a language that most actors don't understand is a PR courtesy to English fans abroad. If he has enough roles to make a voice actor page, then you can make the macron spelling with the native Japanese. Currently he doesn't though. So sorry if you don't personally like it, but that's what I'm going to put. Sake neko (talk) 04:51, April 5, 2017 (UTC)

Template

Oh, good eye. You can edit it by yourself here. Just click "edit this page" and scan through the code. Delete the second Beast Harness, save, and you're set. Remember though: whatever changes that you do here will show up on any other article that uses this template. Cheers. Sake neko (talk) 18:37, April 2, 2017 (UTC)

Answers

  1. Probably more respectful to just link your DeviantArt account on your own profile and nowhere else. You can edit your own profile website link to be that or edit your profile on this wiki to show that off better. That's frankly preferable because this wiki doesn't exist to promote you. It's only here to promote and elaborate on anyone and anything that is directly related to Koei in some way.
  2. Don't remember off the top of my head. I'd have to look it up, and I frankly don't feel like plugging in WOZ or whatever copy of WO I have on hand right now just for that. Sake neko (talk) 04:44, April 4, 2017 (UTC)

Namikawa Yasuie

If I remember correctly, he was an Akechi vassal, who followed Mitsuhide all the way till Yamazaki. AntonKutovoi (talk) 22:53, April 4, 2017 (UTC)

Character Meanings

To answer your question, no. That just seems like a lot of pointless busywork. Humble Novice (talk) 17:42, September 2, 2017 (UTC)

Development

Please do not use development sections to comment on character designs and possible allusions; this is what the character symbolism section is for. The development section is specifically where we place any commentary made by the actual developers from the games for the subject in question. Kyosei (talk) 19:56, November 27, 2017 (UTC)

Since you seem keen on the new DW9 designs you can add Suzuki's commentary about them to the development sections. They've already all been translated into English here, so you can just add them to the character pages with a bit of paraphrasing. Be sure you link to the relevant facebook post for each character. Kyosei (talk) 21:40, December 2, 2017 (UTC)

Koumei no Wana

Known in the west as Kaizo Trap. And it's a meme in Japan too, referenced in many Japanese Three Kingdoms works specifically because of the popularity of Yokoyama's Sangokushi comic and Zhou Yu's melodramatic reactions to Koumei's ploys. The trivia note on Zhuge Liang's page is meant to particularly highlight changes/homages added onto it because of DW's popularity. Sake neko (talk) 06:46, December 19, 2017 (UTC)

Moveset Acronyms

Do not use acronyms like OTG or whatever to describe movesets. Not everyone understands those terms and it's a rather lazy way to talk about the effects of each attack. Humble Novice (talk) 02:24, January 2, 2018 (UTC)

  • That's going to take a long time for me to fix....so many revisions to plan ahead for.... SneaselSawashiro (talk) 04:37, January 2, 2018 (UTC)
I already told you why we don't use acronyms here, yet you deliberately edited the charge attack page to avoid removing them yourself. Why? And what was so difficult about making those changes when typing "OTG" on the search function would suffice? It only took me a few minutes to correct them all, you know. When describing moveset attacks, please don't type acronyms anymore. That's all I ask of you. Humble Novice (talk) 05:26, February 5, 2018 (UTC)
That's because I already did it, and it's been on too many movesets to count....almost akin to the "removes bow moveset from previous titles" error, I'm just annoyed that it's going to take A LOT long to fix EVERYTHING. Just...nevermind... SneaselSawashiro (talk) 07:13, February 5, 2018 (UTC)
What have you done to the weapon moveset page? The formatting is a mess. Humble Novice (talk) 07:55, November 6, 2018 (UTC)
Ugh...****. I wanted to edit the whole page in source format.....but...derp. SneaselSawashiro (talk) 07:58, November 6, 2018 (UTC)

Current translations for movesets via what I've been doing

As I've noticed, there's a ton of moveset updates in my rare visits to this wiki for the DW series specifically. And via being more mainlined installments and what I used to do, I'm only translating so far the OG PS1 movesets, DW7 and DW8 Musou Attacks. Like before, I'll point out any specific Japanese move names if needed for EX Attacks especially. SneaselSawashiro (talk) 18:24, 26 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Edit Reverting

Pardon me for asking this, but is there a reason why you tried to revert most of the changes I made to the weapon fusion page for the Warriors Orochi series? The reason why I revamped it is to help differentiate the new wiki from the older one. If Google deems that page as a duplicate of the old one, it may not even show up on their search engine. Humble Novice (talk) 07:43, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I also humbly ask that you do not copy and paste new information from this wiki over to the old one. The site forked away from Fandom for a good reason, and what you did may be treated as plagiarism. Humble Novice (talk) 08:12, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Site Upgrade Notice

I would like to inform users here that this wiki will be undergoing renovations on May 21, leaving it read-only for the whole day. Editors will be able to resume editing once the upgrade has been successfully implemented. This applies to other wikis affiliated with ABXY. Thank you for taking the time to read this message. Humble Novice (talk) 08:03, 21 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Editing Critiques

While I appreciate any edits made to improve the wiki, I do have some issues with the way you write things down. First off, you do not need to state the obvious for just about everything. Also, please try to be more clear and succinct with your words. If English isn't your first language, you may want to refrain from making long paragraphs. The way you've written certain phrases comes off as confusing at times. Furthermore, we want to avoid using too much short-handed terms since the wiki has to be more user-friendly for people. Thank you for taking the time to read this message. Humble Novice (talk) 00:01, 28 March 2025 (UTC) Humble Novice (talk) 00:01, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please refrain from edit warring. I will only give you this warning once as a courtesy. If you do it again, I may have to resort to certain measures to get you to understand. Also, you've hardly even responded to my critiques at all, so I'm not quite sure if you're even listening to what I have to say. Humble Novice (talk) 03:51, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, then I have nothing to say another than mild annoyance at how certain bits of information have to be forfeited that I worked hard on. I might as well just stop if we're going to go through the same song and dance as years back then. SneaselSawashiro (talk) 03:57, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't know how to tell you this, but being a wiki editor means having to get used to the idea of other people modifying your work for the better whether if it's expanding sentences to paint a broader picture on the subject or trimming them down to lessen any fluff. And so far, you have a bad habit of being overly verbose when being more direct would suffice. Humble Novice (talk) 04:28, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Since there's a hinted possibility of having weapon pages for each installment, should we have to get rid of the character's independent weapon pages? If so, perhaps my weapon trivia info can be moved to those pages instead. I don't know if you should also move the info I've done for weapon acquisitions since I'm still in the middle of trying to fully edit the processes of getting each one from DW3-to-DW4XL (touching up DW5 and 5XL's requirements are to be done at a later time). SneaselSawashiro (talk) 04:03, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Honestly, the way to go at it in my opinion would be giving something like Spear, Brush, Siege Spear, etc. its own article, because, especially in DW7 and beyond, you can equip your character with any weapon thus not really being specifically tied to a particular character, plus the weapons in of themselves are treated as their own gameplay mechanic segregated from the character (like in earlier games, you can get different weapons with separate affinities and level up systems and whatnot) and character's preferred weapons can even change throughout games (like Xiahou Ba switching from the Great Sword to Siege Spear, and then back to Great Sword). We can specify in their page that it belongs to this character ie The Crescent Blade is Guan Yu's signature weapon in the intro of the article. Xiahou Ba, The Nasty Warrior (talk) 04:08, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
My main concern is with weapons from DW3 all the way to DW6, and in a similar vein the Orochi series as well. While I understand the edit characters' weapons have their own pages, not sure how the others would work out.
And I haven't even gotten to editing the Samurai Warriors series' weapon acquisitions as well.... SneaselSawashiro (talk) 04:18, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I haven't played the earlier titles extensively, but they're still named very specifically, right? Like Zhou Yu uses an Elder Sword and we could still talk about it in context of those games. If I had time, I could try to quickly draft something up to visualize what I mean. Xiahou Ba, The Nasty Warrior (talk) 04:21, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Personally, I like the idea of having each weapon type be given its own article. However, that would mean getting more editors to do the work in filling out extensive information about them including their history in the games and real life. As for weapon pages in general, I believe we can do two types that offer something different. The first type would provide more general information on every weapon found within a title while the second type would contain more in-depth information per character. Humble Novice (talk) 04:33, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sounds like a good idea to have both articles: a standalone weapon article and a per-character article setup we currently have. Xiahou Ba, The Nasty Warrior (talk) 04:36, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Perhaps. The thing is we have independent character weapon pages for a reason. While the stuff like my weapon trivia findings can go on the universal weapon pages like for the edit character weapons...well, I'd best just keep doing my thing on the weapon acquisition info.
P.S. I still need to edit info for Shangxiang, Diaochan, Dong Zhuo, Yuan Shao, Meng Huo and Zhurong's rare weapons across DW3-to-DW4XL. I haven't found much time to grind for their weapons on my PCSX2 (went for OG Japanese versions for script differences from English and to see the JP weapon names more clearly). Will also plan on maximization runs for JP DW4XL at some point too. SneaselSawashiro (talk) 04:37, 28 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Extra trivia for DW4 and 4XL

  • The battle messages for receiving level 10 weapons are different between both the localized and the East Asian/Japanese versions:
    • In the localized versions, it claims that the player's character has "gained the ultimate weapon [insert weapon name]!" akin to an item.
    • However, in the original East Asian versions, the player character is instead claimed to have "grasped/perceived the extremity of martial arts, [insert weapon name]!" as opposed to the text stating they have received a weapon. Stylized in Japanese as "[Player character], 武芸の極み[insert weapon name]会得!" ([Player character], bugei no kiwami [insert weapon name] etoku!)
    • Meanwhile, for the Xtreme Legends expansion for level 11 weapons, it claims that the player's character has "gained the final weapon [insert weapon name]!".
    • The East Asian versions however, state that the player has "further grasped/perceived the extremity of martial arts, [insert weapon name]!" instead of claiming they've received a weapon. Stylized in Japanese as "[Player character], 更なる武芸の極み[insert weapon name]会得!" ([Player character], saranaru bugei no kiwami [insert weapon name] etoku!)
  • Many of the level 11 weapons despite having designs original and different from the prior Xtreme Legends expansion's fifth weapons, happen to directly reuse design aspects/assets from the prior level 10 weapons. To list notable examples:
    • Several sword weapons either reuse the same exact grip, pommel, and/or hand-guard designs. Others instead have additional design elements added on top (such as for Zhang He, Cao Cao, Sun Jian, Sun Quan and Yuan Shao's level 11 weapons especially).
    • Xu Zhu's weapon shaft color is the exact same across his level 7-to-9, level 10 and level 11 weapons save for minor elements. Meanwhile, both Zhao Yun and Jiang Wei's shafts on both their level 10 and 11 weapons are the exact same, including the tassels.
      • Yue Ying's level 11 however, shares a different-colored tassel than her level 10, while also still sharing the same shaft.
        • Xu Huang's level 11 shares the same exact shaft as his level 10 and even the same central-axehead-base, though only his level 11 weapon has a tassel despite the weapon image artworks showing otherwise.
    • Cao Ren's level 11 weapon reuses the same engravings on the blades of his Level 10 weapon.
    • Guan Yu's level 11 weapon however, via the theming of the colors of the specific dragons referenced, has the same shaft as his signature level 7-to-9, albeit the said shaft is of a shorter length to accommodate for the much larger blade (largest of all of his weapons' blade sections).
