Base Game
Sima Zhao is affiliated with the sword in this title. When equipped with it, Sima Zhao can perform the following unique attacks listed below.
- EX Attack: : Sima Zhao punts forward with his right leg while doing a stumbling flying kick. If the attack connects, he then surfs on his downed target face-up along the ground for a short duration. The move can be maneuvered to plow over other nearby foes.
- Musou Attack - Fireball Kick (轟炎回転; lit. "Roaring Flame Revolution"): : Creates a huge energy ball via upward sword wave, then spin kicks it forward to launch foes into the air. The energy ball itself travels at a very far distance, making it ideal for reaching enemies further away. Both phases of this attack can break through the enemy's guard.
- Alternate Musou Attack - Inferno Burst (轟炎解放; lit. "Roaring Flame Liberation"): R1 + : After briefly shrugging, Sima Zhao slashes upward with a blue fire-trailing strike to knock nearby foes skyward. He then finishes up with a short-ranged fiery blast from his finger before stumbling back and blowing on it as if it was a gun barrel. Can cause guarding foes to stagger momentarily.

- Double Element: Activates elements of both current weapons while attacking.

- Fame Type: Wise
- Subordinate Special Command 1 - Slander: Advises a ruler with a very high friendship rating to banish an officer from their service. Increases wise fame by 1,500 and evil fame by 1,000 when used.
- Subordinate Special Command 2 - Alienate: Creates distrust between the ruler of another kingdom and its officers. Increases wise fame by 3,000 when used. Also available as a special command for rulers.

- Stratagem Card (Downloadable) - Hidden Motivation (怠惰の裏側; lit. "Flip Side of Indolence"): Increases player's speed and attack speed.
- Allied Stratagem: If deployed as a playable officer, Sima Zhao will motivate himself and increase his own attack power, defense power, and movement speed during battle. Has a chance of happening from time to time.
Shin Sangoku Musou VS
Sima Zhao is affiliated with the sword in this title, though his EX attack and second Musou attack are absent.
- Changed Attacks
- Charge Attack 6: Y Y Y Y Y X: Functions similarly to its base game incarnation, but now unleashes a radial shockwave for added range.
- Jump Charge: B X: Lobs a fireball on the ground in a downward arc.
- Additional Attacks
- Ranged Attack: Lock-On Enemy + Y: Launches energy waves at the target by swing sword repeatedly from a distance.
- Ranged Charge: Lock-On Enemy + X: Shoots a large fireball by doing a finger gun gesture with free hand. Takes cues from Sima Zhao's Inferno Burst Musou attack in the base game.
- Strong Charge Attack: Hold X During Charge Attack: Prolongs charge attack to further strengthen its damage output. Can break through the enemy's guard.
- Evasion: R: Pulls off an aerial flip to avoid enemy attacks.
- Musou Attacks
- Normal Musou Skill - Roar (大喝): ZL or Y + B: Causes nearby opponents to be forcefully ejected to another stronghold.
- Rare Musou Skill - Rest (豪眠): ZL or Y + B: Gradually restores health by sleeping.
- Musou Attack: A: Sima Zhao performs Fireball Kick as their ground Musou attack.
- Musou Rush: Hold A: Sima Zhao duels an enemy officer through one of several mini-games that tests their individual reflexes against one another. Should the opponent lose, Sima Zhao will send the opponent airborne with an upward slash before hitting them with a spin swipe and a flying kick. He then finishes the assault by sending out a blue fiery blast from his finger. The finisher itself is directly taken from Sima Zhao's Inferno Burst Musou attack in the base game. If the opponent wins, Sima Zhao will tumble back on the ground without hurting their target. This also happens after winning a Musou Rush mini-game initiated by the opponent. Can only be used if a hostile officer happens to be nearby.

Made playable via spirit item, Sima Zhao's moveset uses many of the same attacks offered by the blue dragon sword moveset albeit with some differences.

- Main Attacks
- Strong Attack 1 (Dash): Produces criss-crossing slashes that immediately move forward on their own like a projectile, inflicting 180% attack damage to enemies in front. Based on Sima Zhao's weapon moveset in the eighth installment. Its bonus effect enables the first hit to deal 44% attack damage to elite enemies while inflicting them with a debuff that increases the amount of damage they take by 18% for 8 seconds.
- Strong Attack 1 (Break): Gathers enough strength to perform a blunt strike with sword handle to inflict 170% attack damage on foes. Its bonus effect allows it to deal an additional 380% attack damage on hit and greatly reduces their super armor bar. The effect itself triggers every 30 seconds.
- Strong Attack 1 (Armor): Does a sweeping slash while pivoting, then follows up with a fierce upward strike. Deals 170% attack damage. Its bonus effect grants nearby friendly units a shield that adds a 9% bonus to their health, a 30% damage reduction, and a minor super armor effect. It lasts for 8 seconds and triggers every 40 seconds.
- Strong Attack 1 (Gather): Performs four criss-crossing slashes while gathering enough energy to release a radial shockwave, inflicting 230% attack damage to surroundig foes. Its bonus effect deals an additional 18% damage to all enemy troops within range and pulls them closer to the user. The effect itself triggers every 10 seconds.
- Strong Attack 2: Leaps into the air via ascending swing and launches a crescent slash downward. Deals a total of 210% attack damage and has a chance to electrocute foes.
- Strong Attack 3: Lands five criss-crossing swipes in a row followed by a dizzying round slash, inflicting a total of 330% attack damage.
- Strong Attack 4: Performs a circular swipe that sends out an energy wave forward, inflicting 80% attack damage to foes approaching Sima Zhao. Has a chance to electrocute targets.
- Strong Attack 5: Hits foes with a forceful stab on the ground, releasing a slanted pillar of dark blue energy that deals 170% attack damage to foes while sending them airborne.
- Strong Attack 6: Swiftly draws out sword and slashes radially with blue electricity spreading out while facing the other direction. Deals 210% attack damage to foes.
- Normal Attack 1: Does a leftward diagonal slash that deals 90% attack damage.
- Normal Attack 2: Lands a horizontal cut to the left that inflicts 90% attack damage towards foes.
- Normal Attack 3: Turns around before landing a slightly stronger horizontal cut to the left. Deals 110% attack damage to enemies in front.
- Normal Attack 4: Pivots forth to land a lower left slash that deals 130% attack damage.
- Normal Attack 5: Hits foes with a forceful stab to the front that inflicts 150% attack damage.
- Normal Attack 6: Twists to the right before unleashing a rightward diagonal slash with blue electricity coating it. Deals 200% attack damage to enemies.
- Special Attacks
- EX Attack: Performs a flying kick on a nearby foe. If it connects, Sima Zhao will ride on top of his target like a surfboard before ejecting them away. Deals 620% attack damage to both the target and other foes nearby. Also has a chance of electrocuting victims for a brief moment.
- Musou Attack: Performing a rendition of his Fireball Kick Musou attack, Sima Zhao conjures a ball of electric energy that he kicks away, dealing 810% attack damage to foes caught within its path. Has a chance of inflicting electric induction to targets.
- Auxiliary Attacks
- Dash Attack: Does a turning swipe while dashing about briefly.
- Switch Attack: Leaps down and lands a rotating diagonal swipe to ward off nearby foes. Only used in certain competitive modes.
- Counter Attack: Dazes foes the moment they hit while blocking.
- Evasion: Dashes forward slightly to evade incoming enemy attacks.
- Horse Attacks
- Horse Normal Attack: Lands repeated round slices to the right.
- Horse Kick Attack: Has horse unleash powerful kicks with its forelegs. Has a cooldown time of 8 seconds.
- Horse Stomp Attack: Has horse stomp the ground hard. Has a cooldown time of 6 seconds.
- Horse Musou Attack: Commands horse to charge forward at high speed for a short duration of time.
- General Tactics
- Tangling Thunder: Causes EX attacks to inflict a thunder effect on enemies for 10 seconds. Electrocuted enemies afflicted with thunder take 40% extra attack damage every second. Effects increase the higher Sima Zhao's star ranking becomes.
- Combat Soul Skills
- Heaven Combat Soul Skill: Causes Musou attack to refresh thunder effect while dealing 10% more damage against electrocuted foes. Bonus increases the higher the combat soul's ranking rises.
- Earth Combat Soul Skill: Causes electrocuted enemies struck by Sima Zhao's thunder effect to receive 5% more damage from it per second. Can be stacked up to 10 times. Bonus increases the higher the combat soul's ranking rises.
- Human Combat Soul Skill: Enhances electric induction effect caused by third charge attack, prolonging its effect by 2 seconds and causing targets to receive 6% attack damage within 5 seconds. Damage bonus increases the higher the combat soul's ranking rises.

- Charge Attack 5: : Stabs weapon on the ground while holding it in reverse grip and stomping forward. Launches nearby enemies into the air.
- Jump Charge: : Flips in mid-air before slamming weapon unto the ground to produce a minor impact.
- Team Abilities
- Ability 1 - Impact: Refills Musou by a set amount for every 100 KOs per member.
- Ability 2 - Stamina: Refills life by a set amount for every 100 KOs per member. Only available in Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate.
- Special Attacks
- Musou Attack: : Sima Zhao performs Fireball Kick as their ground Musou attack.
- Counter Attack: Counter + L1 + : Quickly swats away an enemy's attack, causing them to stagger briefly.
- Assist Attack: Counter + L1 or R1: Sima Zhao performs the fourth charge attack to assist a teammate while surrounded within an updraft of wind for extra coverage.
- Grounded Type Action: R1: Sima Zhao does a quick launching punt forward followed by a leaping back spin kick, then finishes up the move with unleashing a blast of blue fire from his free hand. This attack is derived from Sima Zhao's Inferno Burst Musou in the seventh game.
- Midair Type Action: R1: Swipes back and forth repeatedly before diving down to perform a wide circular slash upon landing. The motion itself is based off on Sima Zhao's Purple Inferno Musou attack from the eighth game.
- Hyper Armor: Passive: Prevents enemies from interrupting combos with normal attacks.
- Normal Strategy Card: Well, I Suppose... (たまには本気を; lit. "Being Serious For Once"): Sends out a sparkling blue projectile that bursts into a turbulent sphere of energy upon hitting the opponent. If it successfully connects, the user's movement speed gets reduced while their attack power increases.
- Golden Strategy Card: What a Bother... (奔放なる休戦; lit. "Free-Spirited Truce"): Forces all cards into CT state, leaving both the player and their opponent to fight normally instead.
- Team Attacks
- Triple Rush 1: Lands a fast upper swing that sends out a mobile shockwave traveling on the ground at a set distance.
- Triple Rush 2: Quickly swings sword from left to right repeatedly.
- Triple Rush 3: Does a quick aerial swing to unleash a massive energy wave down on the ground, creating a burst effect that disperses enemy crowds below.
- Unique Triple Rush 1: If Sima Zhao is paired up with Sima Yi and Sima Shi, they will be able to do a unique triple rush with each other. For his part, Sima Zhao contributes to the assault by delivering an aerial slash and a fiery flying kick.
- Unique Triple Rush 2: Should Sima Zhao team up with Zhuge Dan and Sakon Shima, he will be able to perform a unique triple rush attack alongside them. After Zhuge Dan produces a ball of lightning to attack surrounding foes, Sima Zhao leaps to the air and kicks it to the ground to inflict further damage.
