Here is a collection of Sima Yi's weapons in the Warriors series.
Weapons
Dynasty Warriors 3
Fourth Weapon Acquisition
- Hard or Very Hard Difficulty
- Stage: Battle of Wu Zhang Plains (Wei Forces; Original Scenario)
- Precious Item Location: At the southeastern entry point that goes south, right by the west bank of the river that goes alongside the said entry point.
- Requirement: Defeat both Zhang Bao, and the supply captain that appears in 20 minutes of the stage starting (at the southeastern entry point).
Strategy and notes
Note that the supply team that appears at the southeastern entry point that goes southwards IS NOT one that carries the weapon, but is instead tied to the battle itself. The said supply captain doesn't drop any item when defeated.
Only after you've defeated both Zhang Bao and the said supply captain will the weapon crate appear, and you'll likely have to do a lot of waiting until the 70-minutes-left mark.
Of course, Wuzhang/Five Zhang Plains is a max-star-late-game stage, so it's very brutal especially with the likes of Sima Yi who's only barely better than Zhuge Liang in terms of performance.
Thankfully, in the meantime if you're decent enough with Sima Yi or playing co-op with the P1 stat scaling trick, you can easily pass time by defeating all other possible enemy officers as they will not tamper with the weapon requirements. Defeating other officers while waiting for the supply team to appear will likely be able to ease up morale and above all, cover your route towards Zhuge Liang after getting the weapon.
Though if you choose to beeline for Zhuge Liang to end the stage as Sima Yi, especially without an intermission save to turn down the difficulty AFTER picking up the weapon, be wary of the many enemy archers around the Shu HQ as you'll likely need to slot in a high-level Nanman Armor in your item deck-out + a high-level Tortoise Amulet to survive if you're not skilled enough at dodging arrows.
The waiting around you have to do however, may also at least prevent you from getting in the way of the 2 rock catapult attacks upon the Shu HQ as they will not last forever and will eventually stop on their own.

Fifth Weapon Acquisition
- Very Hard Difficulty
- Stage: Siege of He Fei Castle (Wei Forces; Original Scenario)
- Precious Item Location: Just east of the wind/tornado trap corridor (next to a crate with a quiver of arrows).
- Requirement: Defeat Lu Meng, Gan Ning, Sun Shang Xiang and Lu Xun in any order before Cao Rui and Man Chong's reinforcements arrive.
Strategy and notes
The same requirement as Xu Zhu/Chu's 5th weapon, albeit under a specific time limit before a certain in-battle event. The item box location is also the same as Zhurong's 5th weapon, but next to an open crate with an arrow quiver instead of being next to the wall.
It can be rough even with Sima Yi's 4th weapon already unlocked, as you need to deal with 4 playable officers as your targets and again, Sima Yi is only barely better than the likes of Zhuge Liang.
You also have to be quick before your allied reinforcements arrive which will lose you the weapon (as they will arrive within 9-to-10 minutes upon the stage starting), especially since Hefei (New) Castle is an infamous late-game stage which means your allies will also likely be defeated one by one due to a huge morale disadvantage on Very Hard; it's a maximization-run-testing stage via the Wei Forces scenario for a good reason.
Furthermore, the all-out attack declaration from both Wei and Wu forces happening right after Man Chong and Cao Rui arrive means you'll likely be cornered fairly easily with your allies failing to make their stand depending on morale, BUT if you managed to fulfill the weapon requirements in general and fairly fast enough, you might give everyone enough morale before the reinforcements help to bolster it further.
Since you're playing as the commander by default, everyone will be actively gunning for you once you're left all alone on the map, and even with the aforementioned reinforcements arriving, it still might not be enough to salvage the situation unless you manage to personally defeat all the enemy officers yourself when that time comes.
You'll likely need to use Red Hare as a saddle in order to make it to your targets fast enough on time as you may spend plenty of time trying to effectively duel them, as Sima Yi himself starts in his usual position west of the northern palace (which is pretty far away from the action). A high level Speed Scroll is also recommended to further ease up Sima Yi's slow base running speed.
Or you can be cheeky with the P1 stat scaling trick with an underdeveloped Sima Yi as player 1, and be sure that the fully-developed player 2 choice spawns at a point as close as possible towards any of the playable officer targets to save as much time as possible.
Again, AVOID THE GAZEBO IN THE CENTRAL GROUNDS POND AND LU XUN'S FIRE ATTACK IN THE CASTLE'S SOUTH CENTER! Though, if it's late into the stage with morale heavily in your favor and/or your allies having moved up enough, the former trap can be safe to trigger. Lu Xun's fire attack will also be prevented if you defeat him before moving through the south inner gates.
Even then, either playing solo or with the P1 stat scaling bug, be wary of these issues:
- Gan Ning and Lü Meng are very dangerous with their 4th weapons providing them extra Musou fill. The former in particular has his infamous Musou Attack that can guard break you on its earlier hits.
- Shangxiang with her 4th weapon's movement speed increase can likely easily catch you if trying to run away from her during a disadvantaged state. Shangxiang may also run away from you at times making her hard to catch which can easily waste time.
- Meanwhile however, Lu Xun's C4 with Death element on his 4th weapon is also a major threat that can also bypass your defenses and nearly kill you and/or nuke your bodyguards.
Keep all that in mind when fighting them even with abusing the P1 stat scaling, but also try to fight them by themselves with allies nearby if you can during a standard solo attempt.
Dynasty Warriors 4
Level 10 Weapon Acquisition (base game's scenarios)
- Hard or Expert Difficulty
- Stage: Battle of Wu Zhang Plains (Wei Forces)
- Requirement: Defeat Ma Chao and Wei Yan in any order.
Strategy and notes
While you can simply go out there and gun for both Wei Yan and Ma Chao, the battle if you especially do this within Musou Mode as Wei's Final Act, might be a bit of a difficult one. The two of them are leading assaults from the western and eastern forts, so defeating them also helps cover your army's flanks.
You need to at least approach Ma Chao and Wei Yan carefully given that they're in Hyper Mode (which also means they'll tank quite a bit of damage), and Sima Yi while he has 6 item slots is still an average character. However, a maximization setup with maxed Tiger, maxed Herbal, Wind Scroll and maxed Poison Orb (which has synergy with Sima Yi) likely allows you to heavily take advantage of the Poison debuff to win fights effectively. Sima Yi's parry counter is also a very potent tool in his kit, and his staggering jump attack which has decent range and fast startup.
If Ma Chao and/or Wei Yan choose to duel you depending on how much you as the player have antagonized them as Sima Yi in any stage playthroughs, all the more merrier. But the two of them depending on your stats and gear still may be dangerous to take on without any allies and given how they're surrounded by many peons.
Be wary that Ma Su will appear as an enemy ambush if you head to the part of the northern river back just south of the central Wei stronghold checkpoint gate. But if you managed to surround Ma Su during the Battle of Jieting in Wei's Fall of Shu Musou Mode Act beforehand, a morale drop occurs for Ma Su with some unique dialogue which may make things more easier.
Do note that once you defeat both Ma Chao and Wei Yan, Zhuge Liang will begin the ploy to fake his death and it's a beeline to the Shu main camp. At some point, the Wood Ox Flowing Horses will appear in the southwest just southwards of the western base, which you can gun for to lower the Shu forces morale even further, but further down south near Zhao Yun's position will be a bevy of juggernauts/tiger tanks waiting for you. Going further southwest will take you to the supply depot that can be claimed by defeating Liao Hua which raises your army's morale even further.
Though once Zhuge Liang reveals his death to be faked, and when Liu Bei also appears, be wary of the arbalests shielding the center route towards the enemy main camp. The side routes have none, but are guarded by playable officers. Plenty of extra enemy ambushes are also in place as well, which may lower individual unit morale of any allies that have triggered them.
Level 10 Weapon Acquisition (Xtreme Legends Legend Mode)
- Hard or Expert Difficulty
- Stage: Battle of Mt. Qi
- Restrictions: No bodyguards
- Requirement: Upon triggering the rainfall event, defeat Wei Yan within 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
Strategy and notes
A somewhat hard weapon to get, though may be easy in practice. Even if you can equip items, lack of bodyguards can easily make things difficult for you and you likely will need to max out Sima Yi's base stats fully regardless.
It takes 26-to-27 total KOs (or units to be removed off the map) and/or a certain amount of time until the rain that will defuse the mines and put out the fire appears. Once that happens, all the archers and bombardiers within your area will retreat and leave you alone. Having arrows is recommended and aim for the squad leaders only so you can despawn their peons by moving out of minimap range if possible.
The mines are the same as within the southwest section of the Battle of Chengdu map vs. the Shu Forces, so they can't kill you despite inflicting percentage damage upon you. Once you do trigger a mine however, it will not respawn in that same prior spot (all of them are one-time). It still can be risky to try and defuse all of them this way for overall breathing room, even with the Shadow Harness as your mount of choice as you'll take chunks of damage that will be hard to heal up until later.
Once you do escape from the trap area, you need to rush for Wei Yan right away and/or grab the nearby pots for the healing pickup first depending on how much damage you took within the trap. Because you're also playing on the expansion if going for this method in the first place, Master of Musou is a solid item to equip on Sima Yi to ensure his Musou Attack can punish defenders easily with a free guard crush (recommended to max out his Musou gauge base amount first as Master of Musou increases your Musou drain rate during a Musou Attack).
Be wary that Wei Yan is in Hyper Mode, which may consume some time as his durability and damage increases. Zhuge Liang later down the line will also be in Hyper Mode, but thankfully throughout this stage with many enemy peons gunning for you (and no archers whatsoever), they'll drop plenty of battlefield items to use, especially healing items and/or War God Axes for a x2 Attack Up.
As soon as you defeat Wei Yan on time and have the Level 10 message appear, you DO NOT need to defeat any other officers as you can just gun for the escape point in the northeast to escape the Shangfanggu/Upper-Way Valley. Be careful not to get cornered as Sima Yi has somewhat slower-than-average running speed, and if you've managed to bring your mount along, ride all the way to the finish.

Level 11 Weapon Acquisition
- Expert Difficulty
- Stage: Battle of Mt. Qi
- Restrictions: No bodyguards
- Requirements: Fulfill the following:
- First, trigger the rainfall event manually before it automatically occurs on its own within 2 minutes and 30 seconds of the stage starting.
- Afterwards, defeat 9 of the 10 enemy generals that can appear.
Strategy and notes
A bit similar to the Level 10 weapon requirement, but the time limit instead applies to needing to trigger the rain on your own by killing at least 26 enemies at the start or despawning at least 5 total enemy squads + 1 extra KO.
But because you have access to a Level 10 weapon for this and you have 6 total item slots, item setups can be a bit creative. Elemental damage can apply to his True Musou Attack so Way of the Musou is a MUST.
- Equip the Vorpal Orb, Elixir, Herbal Remedy and Master of Musou. Sima Yi's True Musou Attack can kill up to 30 troops in one shot this way, and most officers can die in two full shots if most of the lasers hit them. Herbal Remedy in tandem with Tiger Amulet and Elixir helps with Sima Yi's Musou fill rate, ESPECIALLY on his parry counter.
- Or, you can do the same with the Blast Orb without Master of Musou in order to abuse the chip damage on block so that officers will take the full brunt of it regardless, allowing you to chip them out and/or always damage them if they block or not. But be wary as Sima Yi does not synergize well with the Blast element, and being stationary during his Musou Attack unlike with Zhuge Liang makes it hard to fully center his homing lasers onto a single target that will block them (as well as turning-ability being more possible on the period just before the final volley spread).
- Though, the usual setup would be Poison Orb (Sima Yi's main element of choice), Tiger Amulet, Herbal Remedy, Power Rune and Master of Musou for your offensive items of choice. Poison element helps debuff the defense of victims inflicted with it, so in tandem with peons frequently dropping many items to pickup, ESPECIALLY x2 Attack Up War God Axes, Sima Yi can hit hard with his True Musou Attack without need of Vorpal or Blast (though it still takes up an item slot).
- Ice is not recommended due to RNG freeze, while Fire may be considered a decent choice. Lightning MAY end up stealing your KOs however, despite the raw damage increase.
- Be sure to equip the Shadow Harness. You'll need to stay on your horse at all times and having just enough speed above an officer/general-tiered horse is fine enough. RED HARE IS NOT RECOMMENDED as you WILL get frequently knocked off otherwise.
- Be wary that there are times you might end up having to leave your horse behind, forcing you to deal with the stage on foot. Enemy entry points will respawn.
Note that you need to defeat only 9 of the 10 total enemy generals that can appear as you can choose to escape from Shangfanggu/Upper-Way Valley at any point once the rain appears, and you can easily take your time with that specific portion of the weapon requirements. However, it can be rather hard to properly trigger the enemy officer appearances via trying to find out which spots to approach on the map and/or how long you might have to wait for, which can easily leave you scrambling to wonder why you haven't unlocked the weapon yet (or where the any of remaining enemy officers are).
As an initial order of business as a way to consistently deal with the start of the stage, which can boil down to some luck (MAX OUT SIMA YI'S BASE STATS FIRST!):
- 1. Charge up your Musou up to full first. Be sure to back away to not be in range of the archers.
- 2. Go and ride down the hill. Dismount and aim in the right direction to then to unleash your True Musou at any archers and/or bombardiers within range.
- 3. Get back on the horse and ride back up the hill in the same path you came down (as the mines you've triggered do not regenerate). Repeat.
- Sima Yi will start cursing at Zhuge Liang when his HP hits the yellow range, which IS NOT part of the requirements nor part of the S ranking; this also will not lose you the weapon, so it's fine to let it happen if it does.
- 4. At this point, you can also try to snipe any other enemies with arrows, which may take some time as Sima Yi's bow attack stat is average and you likely have little room for the Huang's Bow in your item slots. Take your time with this and be precise with your shots to not waste any ammo; use charge arrow shots for maximum damage and do not use the Musou Attack arrows.
Once you do manage to trigger the rainfall manually, you can pickup any healing items with nearby pots and deal with Wei Yan and co. accordingly if you manage to seek them out (which may require some searching around a number of nooks within the map). Be wary of Wei Yan and Zhuge Liang being in Hyper Mode, and the stage time limit itself.
