Secrets of the Past (タイル・トラベラーズ, Tile Travelers) was a social game with puzzle elements and collective features.
Vadim Kovtun served as the game's art director while Gleb Polikanin worked on the user interface design.
Due to Secrets of the Past requiring Adobe Flash Player to function, services for the game officially ended once the software got blocked on January 12, 2021. A sequel for this game is currently available.
Gameplay
The player is a rookie adventurer entrusted with collecting souvenirs and relics found across the globe. Guided by a family of feline explorers known as the Morrises, their goal is to solve archaeological mysteries throughout the world in the form of match three puzzles.
By aligning 3 or more chips of the same color and causing them to burst, the player accumulates points needed to clear a level. Chips can be moved horizontally and vertically so long as there are no obstacles between them. Each puzzle layout has different requirements that need to be fulfilled within the amount of turns provided for them to be fully cleared. While rare, certain levels may even impose a time limit on the player.
Each puzzle layout has a difficulty level of up to 3 stars; the more the player fills up the purple gauge with points, the more stars they earn. This can easily be done by setting up multiple bursts simultaneously. Stars are used to fill up the research progress gauge which unlocks helpful prizes or in-game currency once it reaches completion. Clearing levels is necessary in order to unlock new areas and collect tradable items.
An area map consists of 20 different levels that often escalate in difficulty, forcing some players to rely on boosters to aid them or gain extra turns using emeralds. Losing a level will result in one heart being lost. Players can have up to 5 hearts at a time with one being regenerated after 30 minutes have elapsed. Alternatively, hearts can also be restored by using items or asking for help from friends.
Like most social games, special events allow the player to receive all kinds of rewards for simply logging in. Premium discounts may also be purchased to make the game easier.
