Lady Toida

From Koei Tecmo Wiki

Lady Toida is the wife of Takakage Kobayakawa, who had no other wives or concubines, despite their inability to have any children. Her marriage to Takakage saved her family's clan from perishing in the struggles between the Mōri and the Amago clans.

Roles in Games

Lady Toida appears as one of the unqiue female officers available in Samurai Warriors 4: Empires.

She appears as a minor character in Chikai no Sanshi.

Historical Information

She was born as the daughter of Kobayakawa Masahira, the head of the Numata-Kobayakawa clan. Her father died at the age of just 20 years during the Battle of Gassantoda in 1543. In 1551, she was married to the Takakage, third son of Motonari Mōri.

Although she didn't have children with Takakage, they adopted two sons. The first adopted son was the ninth son of Motonari, named Hidekane, and the second was the son of Kinoshita Iesada, named Hideaki. Her posthumous Buddhist name is Jikōin Gekkei Eichi (慈光院月渓永智) and her tomb is located in Yamaguchi at Taiunji Temple.

Etymology

  • The surname Toida means "question, asking" (問) (toi) and "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta/da).
