Kanesada Ichijō

Kanesada Ichijō was a one of Ichijō clan leader in Tosa Province. He is remembered as the loser to Chōsokabe clan.

Role in Games

In Samurai Warriors, he is known as the daimyō who was allied with Ōtomo. Especially in preparation for battle against Chōsokabe at the Shimanto River, he personally asked for help from Ōtomo. The Ōtomo so sent Muneshige and Ginchiyo to assist him. However, he had insulted Chōsokabe's army, causing him to be completely defeated.

In addition, he is also a daimyō with lower stats than the other daimyō in Nobunaga's Ambition.

Historical Information

He was a eldest son of Ichijō Fusamoto. Where both of his younger sisters were dignified as wives of Itō Yoshimasu and Aki Kunitora. In 1549, he succeed lead the clan since his father was committed suicide. Since he was only 6 years old at that time, Ichijō Fusamichi who was Kampaku came to help take care of him.

In 1558, he married with daughter of Utsunomiya Toyotsuna and married with daughter of Ōtomo Sōrin in 1564. In 1568, He sent reinforcements to help Utsunomiya attack the Kōno clan but suffered a failure. Because the Mōri clan had been able to support the Kōno clan just in time.

In 1569, Chōsokabe clan sent an army to destroy Aki Kunitora and Doi Sōzan's army. From this event, make his old nobles include Hanyū Kenmotsu (羽生監物), Tamematsu Wakasa-no-Kami (為松若狭守) and Yasunami Izumi-no-Kami (安並和泉守) forced him to retired the clan in September, 1573. He was fired from the clan in 1574 and went to live in Bungo Province. Then he moved to Takamori Castle in Iyo Province at the invitation of Kajitani kagenori (梶谷景則).

At that time,there was one of Kanesada's noble who named Kagumi Saemon (加久見左衛門) unsatisfied with the nobles that fired Kanesada from the clan. Kagumi so invited four close friends include Ōki Sakyōnoshin (大岐左京進), Ōtsuka Yagiemon (大塚八木右衛門), Eguchi Genba (江口玄蕃) and Hashimoto Izumi (橋本和泉) to gathering the troops and attack the Nakamura land from the nobles that fired Kanesada. However, Kagumi's army was destroy by Chōsokabe Motochika.

In 1575, Kanesada came to believe in Christianity and was baptized by missionary John Cabral. His christian name was Don Paul (ドン・パウロ). Although, he bring the his full army to battle against Chōsokabe at the Shimanto River but was defeated. After the clan was ruined. he was moved to Toshima in Seto Inland Sea. He was assassinated by one of his former servants but he survived. He has been visited from Alessandro Valignano in 1581 and he lived with faith and religion until his death.
