Fourth Weapon Acquisition

  • Hard or Very Hard Difficulty
  • Stage: Battle of Jie Ting (Shu Forces)
  • Supply Team: Northeast of Sima Yi. (Moves towards northwest entry point)
  • Requirements: Defeat Zhen Ji and Cao Zhen before Zhao Yun appears.
Strategy and notes

Zhao Yun appears around 5 minutes in the stage, so it's wise to tackle this by aiming for both Zhen Ji and Cao Zhen immediately. However, Jie Ting is a rather rough stage, so exercise caution and be sure to play on Hard Mode instead of Very Hard.

If possible, you can choose to also rescue Ma Su to alleviate morale, but you might be expected to have your allies die fast on you anyway. Even then, you likely can't afford to waste time before Zhao Yun arrives.

Dynasty Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends

Starlight Pike
Weapon Level: 5
Hits: 6 Base Attack: 41
Item: Defender Musou Max: 79
Attack: 21 Defense: 58
Musou Charge: 20

Fifth Weapon Acquisition

  • Very Hard Difficulty
  • Stage: Battle of Yi Ling (Shu Forces)
  • Precious Item Location: Northwestern area of the map, east of the boat that has 3 boxes and
  • Requirements: Complete the following in this order:
    • 1. Allow the fire attack to happen via Zhu Ran reaching near Liu Bei's initial HQ to force his retreat.
    • 2. Afterwards, allow the enemy to get close enough to the Stone Sentinel Maze to trigger the allied ambushes inside.
    • 3. Once that is done, then defeat Zhu Huan (who is a sub-officer under Sun Quan).
Strategy and notes

With the infamy of Yi Ling being well-known as a rough stage with its archers and whatnot, Lu Meng first off should be your primary target to deal via his position being a dangerous one. However, as the fire attack is meant to happen by just simply leaving Zhu Ran alone, your allies' morale is bound to take a massive nosedive and you may end up having to solo-everyone with Liu Bei by your side.

Whether or not Liu Bei makes it through the maze doesn't matter as all you need to do once the fire attack starts is to have the enemy armies heading through the maze on their own trigger the ambush units inside the said maze. Once you've taken enough heat off of Liu Bei by clearing out all the enemy officers possible, it's then possible to go and deal with Zhu Huan around Sun Quan's camp as he's a sub-officer under him.

If possible, you can skillfully spend time saving all the other Shu officers so that they can all come to Liu Bei's defense once the fire attack starts. Even then, Liu Bei will still most likely retreat properly on his own if he's not initially surrounded (hence why it's recommended to deal with Lu Meng first as the stage starts since he's closest to Liu Bei's starting position).

Level 10 Base Attack: 55

Level 10 Weapon Acquisition (base game)

  • Hard or Expert Difficulty
  • Stage: Battle of Tian Shui
  • Requirements: Ignore Zhuge Liang's strategy and open both the gates of Ji Castle and Tian Shui Castle to trigger the ambush parties (either from the outside or inside), then defeat both Yin Shang and Liang Xu.
Strategy and notes

This can be done on both Free Mode and Musou Mode alike.

It should be noted you might have to act quick due to the morale being lopsided towards the enemy forces, given Zhuge Liang might be in danger if you did not kill Cao Ren (Musou Mode) or the enemy Jiang Wei (Free Mode) before they engage him. Since you're effectively botching Zhuge Liang's strategy with this method, it'll lower overall morale. It's wise to kill enough generals beforehand to raise everyone's overall morale at any given point.

Level 10 Weapon Acquisition (Xtreme Legends)

  • Hard or Expert Difficulty
  • Stage: Defense of Jian Ge
  • Restrictions: None
  • Requirements: Defeat Cao Ren, Zhang He, Xu Zhu and Xu Huang.
Strategy and notes

This weapon shouldn't be too hard if you're just trying to seek out the enemy playable Wei officers on Hard Mode. It is noted that Liu Shan can exit out past the gates, but he will only surrender if he comes into contact with any active enemy entry points (and they re-spawn very often in this battle); him surrendering will end the stage.

If he's locked in front of a gate, he'll comment on he can't get out and will move to the opposite open gate, and only one gate can be closed and open alike, so time management is key. If Liu Shan does make it out of either gate and out of Jian Ge, he might have a huge chance to be in danger, forcing you to babysit him as well as needing to keep the enemy entry points sealed.

However, it's also possible to merely focus on staying around the gates to keep sealing them, and merely having the enemy officers engage you on their own as they close in, even though you might end up spending too much time trying to kill one of them depending on your skill level. Liu Shan should be heading towards any open gate if you stick with the usual strategy of keeping him inside Jian Ge. Seal either respective gate he will be trying to head towards and keep him inside Jian Ge as much as possible.

If Liu Shan IS outside in the open past Jian Ge's gates however, messages will frequently occur saying he's chosen a new place to surrender himself, which means he's changed destinations to any enemy entry points that are still active if any enemy officers are still taking to time to appear (if you have been getting rid of any entry points then Liu Shan will change destinations once you've done so). Act quickly to take them out, but not too much in a worry since as mentioned before Liu Shan will often be too busy with any enemy peons.

Since it's tough to keep Liu Shan from surrendering ESPECIALLY if playing on Expert Mode for this weapon, or even engaging with enemy generals which can lead to his early death, it's also recommended to use the two-player trick; the second player keeping Liu Shan inside Jian Ge by hitting the gongs and doing the west and east gate balancing act, while the main player as Jiang Wei who will go out and kill all the generals and at the same time, can also seal any enemy entry points for insurance. Either trying to keep him inside past the gates or have him take his time roaming as you isolate your fights can also work the same way, but it all depends on preference and efficiency.

Note that you likely can't spend too much time screwing around as the stage will end on its own in victory, so you still should try and defeat the 4 enemy playable Wei officers as fast as you can.

Dynasty Warriors 4: Xtreme Legends

Prodigal
Base Attack: 60
Number of Hits: 6
Wing Boots: 20 Peacock Urn: 14
Horned Helm: 14 Herbal Remedy: 17

Level 11 Weapon Acquisition

  • Expert Difficulty
  • Stage: Defense of Jian Ge
  • Restrictions: None
  • Requirements: Defeat all enemy generals, all while making sure Liu Shan does not have his HP below half for around 8-to-9 minutes total within the stage.
Strategy and notes

Same overall approach as aforementioned with the Level 10 weapon strategy, but it's noted that keeping Liu Shan sealed behind the two gates is one of the safest ways to fulfill the weapon requirements. If Liu Shan does exit the gates of Jian Ge however, the weapon is not lost yet. Only if he yells out that "if there's anyone to rescue him" when he starts taking damage, then that means his HP is below half and the weapon will be lost.

Even then, if you do manage to make it far enough to Deng Ai and Zhong Hui's appearances, they should be far easier to deal with as they're generic NPC officers, regardless if Liu Shan is outside of Jian Ge or not and/or if you also took time to actively keep sealing the enemy entry points to prevent his surrender.

The Level 11 weapon message will occur after a total of around 8-to-9 minutes. The stage will end if Liu Shan has not surrendered and enough time has passed. This still means you can't take too much time on this stage before it ends in victory without you having finished off all enemy officers.

Some tidbits to take note of:

  • Make sure you keep an eye on the gates; only one gate can be closed and open at the same time, but it's possible to deal with officers in a more isolated and far-out manner rather than trying to keep an eye on Liu Shan, since him dealing with normal troops despite any danger messages is likely not an issue, and thus by proxy, either he's stuck with the enemies behind both the gates (which he won't have much trouble with since no enemy generals will appear from there and he will flat-out ignore engaging in combat with only those troops).
    • Or, if he's made it past both the gates and trying to roam around the area for an enemy entry point to surrender himself, he still will not engage in combat with any peons or officers. Either way, Liu Shan will most likely take his time on these tasks. Keeping him away from both enemy generals to ensure he doesn't die and defeating the gate captains to any entry points in any way possible is key to make sure the weapon is not lost, but the player should always be aware they'll be preoccupied most of the time. Liu Shan's pathing will likely have lapses if you're consistent in dealing with the entry points.
  • For the strategy that involves preventing Liu Shan from even leaving past the gates, ring the gong at the west at the start of the stage since Liu Shan will always head there once he first appears, and ignore the east Jian Ge Gate. From there, go and try to kill Xu Zhu and Xu Huang very quickly (or at least take out the southwestern gate captain if needed), or if you want to play more patiently wait at the east gate and keep closing each one respectively that Liu Shan moves to till Xu Zhu and Xu Huang come to you to battle. Closing the west gate early first will give time for when Liu Shan first appears, his time will be wasted by commenting on the closed gate and trying to move to the east gate you may have ignored. You may also instead, ignore the gate and try to take out the closest northwest enemy entry point instead at the start of the battle.
    • Liu Shan should appear by now depending on how fast you dispatched Xu Zhu and Xu Huang, and he'll comment on the closed gate. He'll move towards Zhang He and Cao Ren if they have appeared and thus will move to the currently open gate, and he'll actually take a bit of his time moving to the other open gate. Save before you go ahead and defeat both of them, all before Liu Shan is able to exit the currently open gate in time. If he's moved past the gates, then try to isolate your fights away from him to ensure he lives and you can take as much time since Liu Shan will always occupy himself with enemy peons if he happens to exit either gate.
  • The two-player trick is also heavily recommended as aforementioned with the Level 10 weapon requirement. Using the AI glitch may also help to save time for defeating any enemy playable generals quickly and ensuring Liu Shan's safety.
