The Battle of Cheng Du, or the Suppression of Cheng Du (成都制圧戦) in the Asian ports, refers to the series of conflicts between Liu Bei and fellow member of the same family name, Liu Zhang. After the Battle of Chi Bi, each kingdom went their own ways for expansion. In Liu Bei's case, he lead his troops to conquer Yi Province in the south. The battle is the first and last war campaign that Pang Tong participated in.

Some games include the Battle of Jia Meng Gate, a part of the series of battles that has Zhang Lu lead troops against Liu Bei. During the conflict, Liu Bei's troops encounter Ma Chao.

Role in Games

Dynasty Warriors

The battle in this series combines events from the overall struggles into one confrontation with several influences from Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Each version of the map has Liu Bei's army start in the south-eastern part of the map, marching westward to invade Liu Zhang's forces. The invading army surrounds the castle gates from three fronts: north, east, and south. Pang Tong leads the first movements of the battle but is ambushed by Zhang Ren in every title, either within a forested area or in a narrow area of the map. Saving him from his death is optional, but it is often one of the conditions needed to make him a playable character. In the third and fourth title, it's possible to have Liu Zhang surrender if he has a low morale. This can be achieved by defeating all of his generals on the field and eradicating his remaining forces. Ma Chao will appear during this battle as Liu Zhang's ally in the latter title. Players have the choice to defeat him and convince him to join Liu Bei.

Warriors Orochi

The undermanned Shu army is attacked by Orochi's army during Orochi's scenario. When Zhang Bao and Guan Xing are quickly routed by the serpent army, Zhuge Liang sees the odds are against them and urges his lord to retreat. Liu Bei only agrees to do so if his followers come with him. To bide time, the strategist seals the southern fort and lures their pursuers into the central area. Zhao Yun, who was previously asked to escort Liu Bei, decides to guard his lord's escape when the strategist falls. When the fleeing liege reaches the upper eastern area of the map, a sorcerer near the southern part of the area will use one of "Zhuge Liang's miracles" and hides the map. While he passes through this area, Meng Huo and Zhu Rong will also come to Liu Bei's aid. As more of his loyal comrades are defeated, however, Liu Bei's progress slows when he mourns for their sacrifices. In spite of their efforts, he is eventually defeated and captured.

In Warriors Orochi, Zhao Yun and his allies search the area based on rumors that Liu Bei was found in the area. What they find is Wei Yan's forces stranded at the castle and surrounded by Yuan Shao and Yukimura's armies. To compound their problems, messengers sent by Da Ji spread the false report that Zhao Yun's party are really evil phantoms plaguing the battlefield, which Yuan Shao and Yukimura humorously believe. Yukimura realizes his error upon his defeat and redeems himself by joining forces with the Shu coalition. After Yuan Shao retreats, Da Ji appears to amuse herself. Though they were unable to find Liu Bei, Zhao Yun's dishearten spirit further fuels his determination to rescue his lord.
