Jouji Nakata (中田 譲治, Nakata Jōji, born April 22, 1954 in Tokyo) is a Japanese voice actor affiliated with Office Osawa. A graduate of the Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music, he initially appeared in tokusatsu and crime shows as a live-action actor. Encouraged by a colleague to take up voice acting, Nakata went ahead and joined Ken Production after seeing how much it earned compared to his previous job.
Nakata is usually typecasted as a villainous figure due to his harsh vocal pitch. His reason for favoring characters with antagonistic or distinct traits is that they can be given more dimension accordingly than those without much personality to work with. He is also proficient in overseas dubs due to his live-action background. Some of his roles include Alucard in Hellsing, Diethard Ried in Code Geass, and Liver in Akame ga Kill!.
