Alternate portrait
Zhou Fang (onyomi: Shū Hō) is an officer who serves Wu. As part of a ploy, he feigns surrender to Cao Xiu and entraps him to cripple the Wei forces.
Role in Games
In the Dynasty Warriors series, Zhou Fang is mainly featured at Shiting pretending to be a Wei officer. In Dynasty Warriors 3, Zhou Fang will spring his ambush once the Wu army takes the two forts near Cao Xiu. However, his cover will be blown if the player takes too long to capture them. Dynasty Warriors 4 has Jia Kui suspect Zhou Fang's ruse, forcing the player to subvert either depending on their affiliation.
Warriors Orochi has him appear as one of Da Qiao's bodyguards at Anegawa once the player forms an alliance with her army.
In Dynasty Warriors 4, he is incorrectly mentioned as Zhao Fang in the dialogues.
Quotes
- "Lord Cao Xiu! I swear on the life of my family... That what I speak is from my heart!"
- "You liar, Zhou Fang! You told me you were surrendering! You would stoop so low? Have you no honor?"
- "You of noble birth are all the same. I have no more use for you. Farewell, Cao Xiu!"
- ~~Cao Xiu and Zhou Fang; Dynasty Warriors 6
Historical Information
Born in Wu, Zhou Fang was a studious youth who went on to become a magistrate of Sun Quan's regime. His most notable act during that time was executing the barbaric Peng Shi who had been terrorizing the people of Qiantang with raids. After his time as a commandant in Danyang, he was later made an administrator of Poyang in 227. The following year saw him neutralize Peng Qi's rebellion and cause Cao Xiu's downfall by falsely defecting to Wei in an effort to destroy them. With his task done, he spent thirty years governing Poyang until his death.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Chapter 96 of the novel dramatizes Zhou Fang's plot against Cao Xiu by cutting his own hair as a gesture of sincerity. His success leads to a huge victory for Wu, earning him Sun Quan's praise for his personal sacrifice.
