King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule is a playable character in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. He serves as the reigning king of Hyrule with Princess Zelda as his daughter and heir.
Role In Game
King Rhoam serves as the reigning king of Hyrule. When first seen, he is sending a regiment of his soldiers, which include Link, to battle with a swarm of Ganon's monsters in Hyrule Field. Next time he is seen, upon seeing a small Guardian that Link, Impa, and Zelda brought with them, though suspicious upon seeing it, he allows Zelda to take it to the Royal Science Academy for Robbie and Purah to look at. When they return later, he learns that the small Guardian has brought a forewarning of the return of Calamity Ganon, and agrees to have Zelda take Link and Impa with her to collect the four Champions that will pilot the Divine Beasts against the Great Calamity.
When they return later, Zelda's decision to focus more on the Divine Beasts and their Sheikah technology grits on King Rhoam's nerves that she is not focusing on awakening her sealing magic from the Triforce and Hylia. However, upon being given a small Sheikah disc that Zelda has been researching with her mom, the Queen of Hyrule, before she passed away, Rhoam seems to soften and agree to let her continue her work on the Divine Beasts. However, some time later, further research into the small Guardian discovers that Calamity Ganon will return on Zelda's 17th birthday, and realizing time has run out to prepare for its return, Rhoam sends Zelda to try to awaken her power at the Spring of Courage, while he issues orders to evacuate Castle Town and surrounding communities of civilians and soldiers to protect them from the inevitable siege and slaughter that Ganon will unleash when it returns. The evacuated soldiers are transferred to Akkala Citadel and Fort Hateno to reinforce the garrisons to ensure the bases do not fall to Ganon's forces.
Just as Zelda departs to head for the Spring of Wisdom on Mount Lanayru so she can climb the mountain as soon as she comes of age to do so, the small Guardian gives her and Impa the Sheikah Slate to warn them of new info that Robbie and Purah found, only for Calamity Ganon to finally rupture its seal and engulf Hyrule Castle. As it begins to corrupt Guardian Stalkers and sends one after Zelda and Link, King Rhoam and his Royal Knights arrive and stun it, before Rhoam tells Link and Zelda to flee, reminding Link that he was chosen as the Champion to protect the princess and hopes he remembers his duty. Realizing the king is right, Link grabs Zelda and retreats as two more Guardian Stalkers arrive to assist the one the king stunned as it recovers, and they surround the king and his royal guard. Prepared to face his death, Rhoam asks Link to protect his daughter, before the Guardians are heard acquiring target-lock and fire, presumably killing the king and his royal guard.
However, after Zelda saves the Champions and Divine Beasts from the Blight Ganons, awakens her powers, and saves Akkala Citadel and Fort Hateno, also gaining the support of Master Kohga, who is seeking revenge on Calamity Ganon for his Yiga clansmen being used as a blood sacrifice to revive the Blight Ganons, Zelda learns of a battalion of Hyrulean Soldiers defending the Temple of Time on the Great Plateau, and heads to assist. When she reaches the temple, she is shocked to find her father, King Rhoam, still very much alive. Rhoam reveals that as the Guardian Stalkers surrounded him and his Royal Knights, the Sheikah disc Zelda gave him earlier began to react. As he retrieved it from his pocket, the Stalkers began locking on with their targeting lasers, but just as they acquired lock-on and fired, Rhoam held up the disc, which produced a Guardian Shield, protecting him and his knights from the Guardian lasers and stunning the corrupted automatons. Thanks to that, Rhoam and his royal guard survived, and quickly withdrew back to the Temple of Time before the Guardians recovered to try again to assassinate the king and his men.
As Rhoam apologizes to Zelda for his earlier doubt regarding her research into the Sheikah tech and makes amends with his daughter, saying she is the light and hope of Hyrule, he then declares to his men, Kohga and his Yiga Clan members, and the others there in the Temple of Time that the time was right to take back Hyrule from Calamity Ganon, passing the command of the troops to Zelda for the final siege on Hyrule Castle. Joining his daughter with Link, Impa, Hestu, and their soldiers, Purah then bolsters their forces with a united coalition of Hyrule's other races in the Gerudo, Gorons, Zoras, Rito, and the Sheikah in Kohga and his Yiga Clan, along with the Divine Beasts and their Champions of both present and future. With the united army behind her, and with Rhoam's blessing, Zelda launches the assault to take back Hyrule Castle from Calamity Ganon.
Rhoam assists his daughter as they breach the castle perimeter, then have to deal with the Blight Ganons one more time, alongside Astor and the Harbinger Ganon, before the Harbinger absorbs Astor to give Calamity Ganon a perfected, and complete, body to face the good guys with. In the process, the small Guardian ends up being corrupted by Calamity Ganon, forcing Link to attack it to remove the Malice, but critically damaging it in the process. That is when Zelda recognizes it as Terrako, her friend that she put together herself that kept her company and cheered her up when she was younger after her mother passed away, before Rhoam confiscated it to ensure Zelda focused on her studies and training more. Rhoam is among those who mourn for Terrako as Zelda, filled with anger and revenge, swears that Calamity Ganon will fall.
However, upon confronting the beast of evil and Malice incarnate, no one can break through Calamity Ganon's defenses as they are invulnerable. It is then that Terrako heroically throws itself at Calamity Ganon and self-destructs, breaking Ganon's defenses and rendering him vulnerable. After Rhoam and the others deal enough damage to it, Link cleaves Calamity Ganon in half with the Master Sword, allowing Zelda to then use her powers to seal Calamity Ganon away once and for all, freeing Hyrule from its tyranny. With the war won in their favor, Rhoam sees to the rebuilding following the war, while Zelda, Link, Impa, the Champions, Robbie, and Purah, get to work with recovering Terrako's pieces and rebuilding him.
